Wow, that analog nub looks super-uncomfortable. I see that they made a groove in the hinge to accommodate for it, but it still looks too stiff to be useful. I thought it was the power button the first time I saw it!
Also, I think Nintendo is falling into the same trap they did with the Wii U, in that they're not doing enough to differentiate the new system from the old one, when the difference is quite important. I know that this isn't even close to a successor to 3DS, but if there will be exclusive games, then it still needs to be communicated to the consumer.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
On the contrary I believe this is the right move. Nintendo should be focused on bi-yearly upgrades to its hardware, Apple style. I just wish they designed the nub better. Still I'm buying one when it comes out over here, Xenoblade is a must for me, plus change-able plateslisalover1 wrote: Also, I think Nintendo is falling into the same trap they did with the Wii U, in that they're not doing enough to differentiate the new system from the old one, when the difference is quite important. Already have two 3DS systems. Both pretty much just sit in a drawer, can't see myself getting this one. The second analog "nub" looks about as useful as the GameCube's d-pad TBH.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
Well, I'm interested.
I only have 1 3DS and it's the one I got in 2011 and I have been wanting an XL (though I think the upscaled graphics look not so great)
The only thing that bugs me is the New XL doesn't have colored buttons and changeable face plates.
The analog nub is inconsequential, it's such an auxiliary feature. If it's meant purely for camera control or minute actions, a nub like that (which is similar to a nub on a laptop) will work just fine.
I'm not a fan of the ZL and ZR placement, but the original classic controller had it similar, and it worked better than I thought it would. The placement isn't ideal, but it's not horrible, and they're doing it to keep the profile of the device down.
Head tracking: cool, Battery Life: sweet, CPU speed: awesome, Built in NFC: very cool.
The prices translated from YEN to USD are also lower than the current price of 3DS', only the 2DS is cheaper.
So, I'm definitely curious.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
Wait, is this for real? Or a prank?
A faster CPU is cool since things would load faster, like the eShop. But the fact that some games will require the faster CPU kinda pisses me off. So, there will be 3DS games that you'll only be able to play on the "New 3DS" but not the older ones? How the hell they plan to make that clear?
The two things that would make me very interested in this is the new screen and volume slider. They weren't very clear... Am I right in thinking that it'll have a new screen that's better for viewing 3D on? I tend to keep the 3D off when playing. And to be honest, it's mostly because I can't hold the 3DS still enough while playing so the image jumps around and messes me up. From the picture, it looks like you can view the 3D on angles, so would this fix that problem? If so, I'd be interested in that just because I'd use the 3D more.
I've always hated the volume control. I don't find it easy to make minute adjustment. Also, it's right where my hand is. I'm always accidentally turning the volume up or down. From the pictures of the New 3DS, I really like the new volume control. This alone would make me wanna get one.
But then there's digital purchases... I have quite a few of them on my 3DS. Luckily, I only have one full retail game that I bought digitally. The rest are VC or indie games. What the hell am I suppose to do with those if I wanna upgrade to the New 3DS? I'd have to own two 3DSes to keep my digital purchases?

I heard they were gonna call it the Nintendo 4DS, but they thought that might confuse people into thinking it's some sort of gaming device that you can time travel with.Stark wrote:Whoever names things at Nintendo should be drug out to the street and shot ...

Then you could hop forward a few months and get the 4DS XL with superior Wi-fi capability instead.Ziggy587 wrote:I heard they were gonna call it the Nintendo 4DS, but they thought that might confuse people into thinking it's some sort of gaming device that you can time travel with.Stark wrote:Whoever names things at Nintendo should be drug out to the street and shot ...

Re: Nintendo 3DS
@ziggy I sure hope it is for real, I'd buy that 3ds in a heartbeat as long as it doesn't come out in the next month or two here(I need some time to recover from my computer build
). Not going to lie it seems alot better than my midnight purple 3ds

Re: Nintendo 3DS
Ziggy raises two big points of why I like this despite the beefier parts -- my hand is always messing up the volume slider placement and I move when I play enough the 3D goes to hell so I just can't use it and won't most the time but would if it got fixed (and here it is.)
Then thinking back to the GBC hybrid vs unique carts, this has potential for greatness.
