Somewhat overshadowed by the news of the newest 3DS, was the proper confirmation of Shulk and what looks like a Gaur Plains themed stage. Cool. He is REALLY feeling it, guys. Quite a few sword wielding bishonen in the game now. What is this, fucking Dissidia?

Anyway, I'd say we can now assume all the other leaked characters are legit.

I was gonna say, Shulk seemed like a surprise and the leak got it spot on perfect, so one would have to assume that it is legit. I hope so.

NoA really has to be shooting themselves in the foot right now. How close we were to never even getting Xenoblade in the first place. Now...

Shulk in Smash
Xenoblade remake hitting 3DS

Damn, I'm glad Nintendo is giving Monolith Soft some love.

Yes that NEVER made sense to me. It's a Nintendo published game in a genre that the Wii lacked (well to be fair, the previous gen lacked overall outside the handheld devices) coming out near when there wasn't really anything else left for the console.

Well they better since they own them.

I'm just happy for them to finally rake in success after all these years.

Xenoblade X will more than likely be more serious business like the previous Xeno's. I'm so stoked. Nintendo finally realized they have one of the best JRPG developers under their roof.

Still pissed we didn't get some of those DS games though. Soma Bringer looked really cool.

Was Xenoblade on the Wii not as serious as the previous games? Some reviews I read said that Xenoblade was better than its predecessors cause it wasn't as bloated with cut scenes.

Yeah. I never understood why they had them make this thing instead

Wait, you've never played the other Xeno's? The story is absolutely nothing compared to the previous games. It's practically a joke. lol. The creator himself has always said it too, he "wasn't even trying" or was surprised at how well it was received. But he's also made it clear that they wanted the successor, X, to be more ambitious again. I think with Xenoblade they were experimenting more with gameplay and what was fun outside of the story segments, since that has often been inconsistent with their other games.

Xenoblade's story is definitely really generic/shounen fair. Kid picks up a sword and saves the world. But the characters, the setting, atmosphere, and everything take it to another level. The execution was amazing. Xenoblade still had lots of cutscenes, but had more "game" in there so it's almost an illusion compared to Saga, which are shorter ~30 hour JRPG's. But I don't care, these guys do cutscenes well. I could watch them forever.

I love Xenoblade, but yes it's story is nothing compared to Gears or Saga to me. Those are Suikoden level stuff with no clear good or evil. Plus it lacked controllable mecha which was a big thing in the other games. X bringing that back, being bigger in scope (space battles? more planets maybe?), being taken more seriously from the creator/writer... it's going to blow my mind.

Tetsuya Takahashi fanboy alert.

I was planning on getting a Smash 3DS because I wanted an XL, so this is a good time to switch IF it comes to America. Then I'll buy Wii U and get the CD!

You know I haven't tried DS emulation on my new and improved PC... might have to give it another shot.
