I played the pre-SE edition first (upon release) and was irritated when they nerfed the SE. Both are great, of course.

Indeed. I hate gamers sometimes.
Why? Because they don't agree with you?
No, mostly because they are wrong and I am right. Like I was right that Wind Waker looked amazing.

Bitching because they changed the look and character of Dante was dumb.

Oh, okay then. So you're just ignoring all the legitimate complaints about the game itself, and labeling them all under the banner of not liking the new Dante.

In case you didn't realize, some people just genuinely didn't like the game because we found it to not be nearly as fun as the older DMC games. To me DMC3 was what got me in to character action games, and it's still one of my all time favorites. DmC, in every regard, felt perfectly average. Not nearly up to the gameplay (Or even story) standards of DMC1, 3, or 4. Again though, that's just my opinion, feel free to ignore it.
I feel old when talking to anyone my age yet too inexperienced to effectively talk to anyone older. Life is grand that way.

Ninja Theory just isn't good. I don't like any of their stuff. Enslaved was one with decent writing and a cool world, but the gameplay was utterly boring. There were like two combos. I played a bit of the new DmC at a friends and it was trying way too hard. Plus your rating doesn't fall until you get hit? It just played, felt, and looked nothing like the previous games... which was the point, but whatever it was, was completely average as Eco said. Totally forgettable. Good riddance if it never gets a sequel.

Is the HD Collection any good or am I better off sticking to the PS2 originals? I don't own DMC 2, but maybe it's just better to buy the HD collection instead of DMC2 on the PS2?

The PS2 looks blurry as shit on my TV too, so a HD upgrade would be nice.

It's one of the best looking HD collections by far in my book. The first game especially, looks pretty damn awesome.

Cheers *clicks 'buy now'*

I needed to check it wasn't a Silent Hill HD catastrophe or didn't have any downfalls.
