I still need to grab one of these but the Everdrive carts are like experiencing a new world and any game, including Japanese language translated games, are easily accessible. You should wait until someone does another group purchase however so you can grab one at a discount. Not only will it play almost all US/PAL/JPN games (Virtua Racing is an exception), Homebrew, protos, and hacks but you also can access most of the Master System library and if you own a 32X, that library as well.

just got the retron 5 on Monday, which got me back into the NES/SNES/Genesis. Luckily I kept my original genesis and sega cd. So today i decided to bring them out of my closet, man was i excited that i kept my copy of night trap, i used to love that game. The only thing that sucks is i didnt save the AV cable for the system(which i just ordered from amazon).

Been on a huge Genesis kick lately.

Sonic: Learning to speedrun this, so playing it every day. Last night I learned routes for Spring Yard 2 and 3, so with those out of the way, I just need Labrynth 1 and 3, Starlight 3, and the zip in Scrap Brain 2. Then I can start doing runs!

Shadow Dancer: This game is hot. Action feels tight, enemy placement is well thought out, and the one-hit death demands you to learn the game, and approach it like a true ninja. Music is wonderful, graphics are sharp with some nice bosses, and the non-ninjitsu mode is like a Black Label, and both modes play great.

Decap Attack: I knew this game was supposed to be good, but damn! Character controls like a glove, the action is fast, the game is forgiving but will take your head (which is also your only powerup, and one of the more interesting mechanics in the game) in just one strike. Your character is FAST, and it feels great to fly through the levels. Between the feel of the character, the head throw (and the ability to retrieve it upon contact instead of waiting for it to boomerang back), and the little flutter your character can do to hover in air, you just feel like you have such great control over the character. Music and graphics are quite nice here too. My only complaint would be that the levels themselves are a little weak, and once you have a route down, there isn't much danger. Still, Chuck himself is such a dream to control that I still end up giving it about one run a day. I could see this game having potential for speedrunning too, with how spot-on you can be with your hovers and head throws.

I'll probably stick with these games until I clear one, and then something else can be added to the mix.

I have a few questions for any Genesis/MD aficionados, I'll put em in a spoiler to avoid the post being even larger than it already is:
1). Video output... what is the best choice here? I have a CRT with S-Video, so my initial plan was to get a Scart cable and a little box to get S-Vid... but those boxes seem to be pretty rare and pricey. I could get a console modded, but then shipping two ways... then there is the option to get something that can take in RGB to get the best signal and avoid modding. I dunno, I just know that my Genesis sounds too good to have this nasty Composite video.

2.) What is the most cosmetically pleasing way to play import carts on my Model 1 Genesis? I don't want to spent crazy money to import lovely MD games, only to plop them on the hideous Game Genie.

3.) Is there a known "best" 3-button Genesis controller? I know people prefer the SFC controller to the SNES one, even though they appear to be of the same quality, so I guess I'm wondering the same about different region Genesis controllers. Not super important, since my controller is quite nice, but I guess I'm just hungry for Genesis info.

I have decided to <finally> play through Streets of Rage 2. (I have beaten Streets of Rage, and while I have made several runs at Streets of Rage 2, I have never beaten it.)

It is a really good beat 'em up (and perhaps the best of its generation). I still think that Final Fight has more personality, but I will not hesitate to admit that Streets of Rage 2 is the better game.

RGB is your best option quality wise, Mega Drives/Genesis can output it natively. Finding a US TV with the capability to accept it could be tricky, but if you already have a SCART capable TV then maybe you already have one? You can find converters to con vert RGB SCART to Component if that helps, but I have no idea on their quality.

No idea on these ones. I prefer the 6 button controller for my mega drive myself.

Oh, I don't hvae a tv with scart input, I was just planning on buying a scart cable so that I could get s-video out of it without modding my system (I'd really prefer to not mod it, but I can live with it if it ends up being the best choice). The thing is, the XMD-2 that is designed to transfer RGB to S-Vid, particularly for the MD, is rare and expensive. The only one on ebay is $250, and even if I find a seller on the forums, I'm unlikely to get it for less than a hundred, and even that would be lucky.

At that price, it seems like sourcing a PVM or something similar would be money better spent, since I would then end up with a PVM, and better video quality. Still a little pricey though. So, I guess I'm trying to decide if I want to go all the way, or just bite the bullet and mod for S-Vid out. Or find a magical box that will step RGB down to S-Vid that isn't so pricey.

I find myself preferring different controllers for different games, and for Sonic I need a 3 button. Those buttons are so large and easy to roll my fingers across (for jumping the frame after you land and such), and it feels great for Shadow Dancer as well. Pretty much, if I can play the game with 3 buttons without missing out on a better scheme, I go with 3 button. Its just so large and comfortable.

So I played a European MD exclusive yesterday called Second Samurai. It's a sequel to First Samurai, which was an Amiga game that was ported to the SNES. Large characters, good music, but DIFFICULT.
