Games Not Beaten 2014
Re: Games Not Beaten 2014
It does to some extent, in some places you can walk quite awhile with no encounters(or at least it seems) and then in others every few steps seems to be a battle and at lvl 10 at elfheim/marsh cave area it can be a little annoying since I'm used to the encounter rate of golden sun still

Re: Games Not Beaten 2014
A few Master System games I've given up on.
First up was Golvellius which I kind of hate. Next up is Action Fighter which is charming but just not very much fun. Aerial Assault is the epitome of mediocre. Psycho Fox, which a lot of people seem to like. I don't get it. It has really stodgy controls and one hit deaths. It's pretty but that's about it. Lame. And Altered Beast on the SMS is laughable.

lol I made a similar post about abandoned SMS games a few months ago. In fact, three of the games on your list were also on mine!Sload Soap wrote:A few Master System games I've given up on.

I can also say I've given up on Body Harvest. It's a fascinating game in a lot of ways and historically important. Shame it ain't much fun to play and looks like sick.

I'll admit I liked Golvellius, but I also love PC-88/MSX style old ass RPGs. Had to quit because I goofed while recording a password though. Maybe sometime in the future I'll do Guardian Legend and Golvellius back-to-back: a Compile mini-marathon.

Fallout 3 360
What an awful game. At its best Fallout 3 is a mediocre Bethesda RPG. At its worst it is perhaps the most underdeveloped, broken shooter I have played.
I tried to like it. I really did. In the end I guess Bethesda RPGs just aren't for me (with the exception of Morrowind). The novelty of a huge open world has never really worked that well for me and Fallout 3 is as bland and uninspired as they come on that front. According to Fallout 3 post-apocalyptic D.C looks approximately how gravel on a childrens playground looks. There is zero things of interest to look at in the game world and I ran all around it looking for something unique. Games generally try to frontload their content and frankly, if Megaton is the sort of ace in the hole for the atmosphere in Fallout 3 they messed up really badly along the line. All of this could be just fine if either of the RPG or shooter elements were fully developed but neither are. There is the saying that Skyrim is an ocean that is less than 6 inches deep and I feel that applies to this game as well. I was playing the game this morning and I can't remember the name of a single character nor why I should care about finding my father in the first place. Shooting feels about as good as combat does in Morrowind with just as much feedback as to whether you actually hit something or not. I guess the approach to hide this incompetence is the VATS system which frankly does look neat when you blow some mutant's face off but it's far less satisfying than doing it yourself. Unfortunately it is basically impossible to actually survive without using the VATS at every possible second. That is despite the fact the percentages for hitting something seem to be completely arbitrary at times.
It should absolutely not carry the Fallout name. I don't have issue with sweeping changes in genre or aesthetic as a general rule but when it is done as poorly as this I have to wonder if this game sold purely on name alone. I have limited experience with the first two games but I now understand the amount of fan backlash this game got at release. How it scored so well is beyond me.

Re: Games Not Beaten 2014
^ I have played through Fallout 3 and its expansions and I kind of agree with what you're saying. I especially hate the level scaling on the enemies. It completely curtailed any thoughts of exploration for me because I couldn't be arsed wasting ammo on constant streams of Deathclaws and Super Mutant Overlords. Part of the reason I'm not so fond of Oblivion. Like you I prefer Morrowind's approach: shit combat made up for with a world actually worth exploring.
On topic, I shan't be beating Viewtiful Joe or Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories any time soon.
Viewtiful Joe I just don't like. GTA:VCS should be good, Vice City is one of my favourite GTA's, but it has all these small issues that bring it down. It's also quite buggy. Better as a soundtrack than a game.

Re: Games Not Beaten 2014
July update
Games not beaten:
Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Bros. 3DS
Phantasy Star Online PC
Pokémon Black Version DS
Solar Striker Game Boy
Off the list: Double Dragon
On the list: Pokémon Black, Solar Striker
First month in a while where more has gone on than come off the list. Pokémon Black I've started but I'm working through slowly as I've played a lot of Pokémon this year so I'm not in the mood to blast through it.
Solar Striker is just kinda tough. My furthest point was just before the stage 5 boss. There are 6 in total, so that's not too bad. I haven't played any more in quite a while now though.

Dropped:
1. Kirby's Amazing Mirror (GBA)
2. Lightning Returns (PS3)
Kirby & the Amazing Mirror is just way too convoluted for me to focus on right now. It's Metroidvania... done all wrong. You get a very weird vague main map that's just a bunch of squares so it's all guess work, then everything is connected via random doors taking you to random places. It's a complete mess and I don't want to put up with it now lol.
Lightning Returns ... I tried, I tried so hard. But after the last few months whenever I've tried to pop it in, there's been a few times where I'm turning the game off 5 minutes later. I went in really optimistic because the combat looked awesome and I actually enjoyed XIII2 a lot. XIII not so much, but it opened up near the end and I managed to finish it. But this? The one character thing really brings it down and most importantly, Lightning is the worst character I've seen in the franchise by miles (and FF is full of farts). What better way to tack on Hope with her, the one we all loved in XIII? The time limit sucks. The music isn't as good as the first two. The MMO styled quests suck. It just sucky sucks suckers.
