Co-op was a must in my household; I have a twin brother. (He's also one of my co-hosts on The Short Game!)

ToeJam and Earl is definitely a must for any Genesis fan. A few years back, I finally mustered up the strength to beat it and was surprised at how easy it was. I remember having the most difficult of times playing. Maybe it was because of the co-op. Regardless, it is fun no matter what mode you play it on. Such a good game!

Also, I would totally recommend Streets of Rage if you have not yet gotten into that (although I am sure you have!) such great Co-op.

Ooooh and another thing. Did you know that Shining Force 2 has a multi-player mode!? There is a code you can enter that allows you to control the enemies. Have player two take control of them. The game gets a whole lot harder from there on out.

Hello. There are some that call me Tim. I've read Racketboy for the articles for a while, and now that my game collecting and collection is growing, I'm joining in the community, as well.

The main focus of my collection is NES and Famicom games, but I have and play many more systems from the Atari 2600 up to the Wii U. If I were to recommend one game people should play, it would be Sword Master for the NES. Seriously, no one talks about this game, but it's very good.

Looking forward to talking with everyone.
Bring back beat 'em ups!

Welcome aboard! It is a pleasure to have you amongst our ranks and it is always good to see someone out there with an open mind looking to spread some of their experience with lesser known games to the masses!

I will definitely check out Sword Master for the NES. Thank you for the recommendation. Any other ones that you would recommend for the system? I have a ton of NES games, but have never taken the time to go through them all and make a list of what to play so any advice would be helpful!

So what about the NES makes you want to collect for it? I started on the system, because it was inexpensive, but I never had an attachment to it, as I started console gaming on the Atari and then on to the Genesis. I always wanted the system, but every person I knew who had one would not let me play the games as I would, "Break it."

Me it was all about the Genesis and Sega CD, the Sega CD mostly because of the, "awesome," FMV games on the system and also the crazy nostalgia. We got it for Christmas and it was the one gift we got to open the night before. No sleep was had as my older brothers and I played Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective until the morning when it was time to open presents for real. Those were the days!

I can definitely agree with you guys on the Genesis being where it was at. I had Sega Channel as a kid and that meant that the SNES almost never got touched.

BogusMeat, in response to your comments, I can say i didn't take great care of a lot of my stuff either as a child, and as a result almost all my old stuff is cart only. I can actually remember getting Sonic and Knuckles in the paper case and just ripping whole thing in half i was so excited. The only stuff that seems to have held up from those days is the plastic Genesis cases.

As far as PS2 stuff, I would say some of my favorite games were the RPG's, the Persona games, Disgaea games, and Dokapon Kingdom is great with friends. Contra Shatered Soldier is pretty fun, although it gets old as the boss patters are really easy, as they just cycle though the same 2-3 moves in the same order till they die. Klonoa 2 i thought was an excellent side scrolling platformer, although its on the easy side. I though the PS2 could have used some more side scrolling platformers. Another one I really enjoyed was Sykgunner. I thought that one was pretty graphically impressive on the PS2 with all the explosions that would be going on. One more I'd mention is Steambot Chronicles, the whole experience seemed kind of reminiscent of the Megaman Legends games. And finally the Megaman, Megaman X, and Metal Slug collections are some of my other favorites. While not necessarily valuable or the best versions of the games, its alot of quality in a small package.

Thats cool you got a bunch of Saturn and Dreamcast stuff from your brother, I think I'm late to the party on collecting for those, although I have been able to pick up a few of the good games like Shining Force and Saturn Bomberman at a real good price. I remember looking into one about 5-6 years ago and passing up on Magic Knight Rayearth for 40 bucks, because I thought that was way too much at the time. If I only i knew...

Your lucky you were able to get some good stuff from your older brother. I feel like my brother and I have a much different relationship, where he is a black hole my games get loaned too, only to never be seen again. I'm still holding out some day that I'll get all his PS1 games though..

Hello all. I'm 8-Bit, and new here. Despite being in my late teens, I'd consider myself a sort of a one-man retro gaming encyclopedia. Modern games can be alright too, but in particular the SNES and PS1 have special places in my heart. My collection isn't as old as some of ya'll's here, but it could be worse. I was adding several games a week earlier this year, my best snag recently made me a proud Colecovision owner, but the progress of building the collection has slowed after I ran out of funds...

I do all genres, barring horror, but RPGs (Particularly those of the Japanese variety) have been my go-to games for years now. My all-time favourites are Chrono Trigger and, generically, Final Fantasy VII.

Outside of games, I'm a bit of a sports fan (Despite being too lazy to play any myself). I never miss a Panthers, Heat, 'Canes, Marlins, or Phins game if I can help it. I really enjoy classic films (Mostly black and white ones), and anime / manga too when I get the chance.

I've read a lot of the articles here previously, they all seem really well put together. Ya'll seem like you've got a nice community going on too, glad to be a part of it. I recently split up with another site I was a long term member in after disdain with the management, so I'm searching for greener pastures, so to speak. This seems like a great site, so I hope I can find a place here. :) Should see ya'll around the boards, sorry if I bored ye with this greeting.

Welcome, 8-bit Samurai.

Your location shows Minnesota, but your sports preferences show that your heart belongs in Florida.

Thanks for the welcome :) I've lived in Minnesota for years now. I like it here, but sometime in the forseeable future I'd actually like to move to North Dakota... But enough about me, see ya'll on the boards.

Hey welcome aboard! It is good to have you with us! So you say you are a sports fan? Any love for sports games? If so, which ones? If not, why not?

A fan of film classics? Any that you particularly enjoy? I am a huge fan of the old school Charlie Chaplin, which was introduced to me by a friend. The Great Dictator Speech is phenomenal.

Also, last but not least, you are into the JRPGs? Any more modern ones that you prefer? I feel like the modern JRPG genre is struggling and am curious to know if any really encapsulate that old-school feel with a great story.
