Best Twisted Metal-like vehicular combat brawler?

Post by Thermoptic »

Im trying to find all fun games in this vehicular combat deathmatch brawler genre, much like the classic game Twisted Metal.

Can you recommend any fun games in this genre? Oh and i would prefer if they are first or third-person view and have local split-screen support for 2-4 player, old or new generation consoles or pc. And weapons and powerups :) Thanks!

Some examples:
Rollcage 2
Vigilante 8

Twisted Metal (Psx)

San Francisco Rush 2049 (Dreamcast, n64)

An obvious one seems to be the multiple versions of Mario Kart and its knock-offs/copycats. Unless of course, you're going strictly for the main focus of the game being combat. (Which I don't think is the case in the Rush games posted in the OP.)

Yes i forgot about the Battle mode in Mario Kart, good recommendation. I really like the Battle mode in Mario Kart 64.

And yes there is a very fun battle arena deathmatch mode with many fun weapons in San Francisco Rush 2049. I have only tested the Dreamcast version that me and my friends play now and then. I really recommend this one

Do any of the games in the Road Rash series have a combat/battle multiplayer mode?

I had to do some searching to bring up the name, but there was Rogue Trip Vacation 2012 too. It runs on the old Twisted Metal engine and was created by an old TM developer.

Vehicular combat is one of my favorite game types. But to me the genre peaked with Battle Tanx Global Assault.

Rocket Jockey is a close second. It is a sublime mix of speed, combat, and swinging. But there are no guns just grapples. That and it requires planning 100 moves in advance three different ways.
