Playing through BF4 again to get a feel for it before I hope back into MP. Damn is this game easy thought it was a little more challenging then this even on hard. AI is horrible as long as you are moving only 1 in about every 10-20 shots hits you and it takes 7-8 bullets to bring you down on hard. Plus the health regen seems way to fast simply duck into cover for 4-5 secs and you are full health again.
Bugs also seem to be worse then I remember. Will compile a bug video when I finish up. Worst yet happened last night was in the middle of a cut scene when without warning a random explosion sound went off and nearly blew my speakers out. It wasn't necessarily a loud explosion but the bass must have maxed there was absolutely no reason for the explosion to happen in that cut scene. After the weird noise my character then froze in place with his hand in front of him so I had to restart from a check point.

Re: What single player FPS campaign are you playing?
I got a PS4 a week ago today, the other day I cleared Wolfenstein the New Order and it really was nice, some superbly cheap over the top moments late in the game but otherwise fantastic. It was a pleasure to see someone bother to make a FPS not sucking up to the lowest common denominator of multiplayer suckupery where you get a minimal value campaign just to sell an online killfest. I hope more people learn from that game and make more concerted efforts like this. This game restored my hopes in enjoying the genre again as it has fallen off in the more recent years and the last few I did enjoy CODMW aside where the WW2 stuff, then the Serious Sam and DOOM like stuff.
Re: What single player FPS campaign are you playing?
I'm currently playing Doom 3: The Lost Mission, which is an 8 chapter add-on to D3 and D3:RoE found in the BFG edition.
Doom 3 gets a bum rap. I was in the minority in that I liked the game at launch (prior to the duct tape mods and all) as the gun/light tension created a ton of atmosphere and made the game fairly unique. Everything in the BFG edition is just a bit too bright for the claustrophobic spaces I've been traveling in thus far and the AI is still stupid based on the telegraphed manner in which many of the enemies spawn, but otherwise the game still provides an ample amount of fun. No game iD (or most other devs) will likely ever do will approach the greatness of Doom and Doom 2, but Doom 3 isn't a bad FPS when compared to most the rest of the field circa 2004 (yes, Doom 3 is 10 years old

What really impressed me with Lost Mission specifically was the texturing. Seemed even better than the rest of Doom 3, I thought some parts looked nearly just as good as Halo 4 or something.
Re: What single player FPS campaign are you playing?
So would you say Doom, Doom 2, and Doom 3 are worth going back to via the BFG edition? I have had this version for a while on Steam but have yet to install it, as I beat Doom, Doom 2, and Doom 3 years ago. I've been eyeing it lately though, wondering if I should start playing through it once I've gotten a few others out of the way. My brother tried it and wasn't too pleased with how they implemented the switch to Doom and Doom 2.dsheinem wrote:I'm currently playing Doom 3: The Lost Mission, which is an 8 chapter add-on to D3 and D3:RoE found in the BFG edition.

Also, I know id implemented the flashlight mod as a normal thing in the BFG Edition, but did they do anything to the audio? The shooting sounds were a point of detraction back when it was first released.
Re: What single player FPS campaign are you playing?
Did they do something to Doom and Doom 2 in the BFG Edition of Doom 3? I know they were included, but not that they were anything different than what we've seen ported many times with the exception of added achievements.Ack wrote:So would you say Doom, Doom 2, and Doom 3 are worth going back to via the BFG edition? The shooting in Doom 3 still sounds "weak" to my ears compared to the originals. Probably b/c there's so much more music and effects going on at once than there could be in Doom or Doom 2.
If you haven't played Resurrection of Evil I'd start there as I think both it and The Lost Mission (which I just finished up at about 2.5 hours or so) are both better than the base game in many respects. The last third or so of The Lost Mission is especially awesome. If you have Doom and Doom II elsewhere, I am not sure the BFG edition version is any better or worse than those...
Re: What single player FPS campaign are you playing?
I've read that there are some things like Imp projectiles and enemy placements on higher difficulties being different, though I couldn't say for sure. That is too bad that they didn't redo the gun audio, as that was a big complaint along with the flashlight thing when the game was released. I haven't played Resurrection of Evil, so I will have to give that a shot!dsheinem wrote:Did they do something to Doom and Doom 2 in the BFG Edition of Doom 3? Re: What single player FPS campaign are you playing?
Sorry to say I can't remember specifically why, but everywhere I read about the Doom Classic Complete collection people said it's much better than the BFG edition of the old games. Well, speaking of gun audio, I think that was a complaint, like the super shotgun sounds different in the BFG edition for some reason.
Doom Classic Complete is quite a collection if you don't mind getting that instead. It's got:
Ultimate Doom
Doom II
Doom II Master Levels
Final Doom Plutonia
Final Doom TNT
No Rest for the Living (originally the XBLA exclusive episode)
It's not as good as the Duke Nukem 3D console port, doesn't have much room for customizing controls and all. But I just ran through the entire thing and have no complaints.

Re: What single player FPS campaign are you playing?
How is it even a question if Doom & Doom II are worth going back to?
