Even better if we sell our house at the price I was quoted, or even 10k less, we could buy the farm and be debt free. It is a smaller house, but it has a three car garage, a four car garage, a hay/equipment barn, and a horse barn, fully fenced, has a creek, is just shy of 20 acres (perfect for a couple horses and goats), and has a fiber node for coax about a quarter of a mile away.
Garage/storage > House square footage....though my wife would disagree. The fiber is just icing, especially if you're fairly rural.
Sounds like the dream to me. I hope it works out for you and the Mrs.
It is a pretty awesome deal. But the house needs a rewire, AC needs to be replaced, carpet removed/replaced, and there are some structure issues that need to be addressed. We got some quotes from contractor friends and it came out that we would need about 65k to get it to the level we want. So we may have jumped the gun on it alittle soon. I did just put in for some new jobs, both with my company in other departments and other companies, so if I can get one I will "hop on pop" as the kids say.
- The equipment barn needs new beams, but that takes a weekend with a couple buddies.
- The animal barn needs to be cleaned out and inspected - half of it is fine, the other half they kept chickens in. Looks like the roof just needs new tin over the chicken area
- The five bay garage is concrete with a tin roof and full of 70s cars - atleast three thunderbirds and one gutted firebird.
- The three car garage needs new windows and to be rewired for power.
- The hidden building that we did not realize was there was a former milking room, then slaughter room. It is a 10x20 single room cement building that has power and water. It will make one helluva guest house.
I mean there is alot that can be done there. But with the house needing so much done to it, we are hesitant.
There was an odd thing in the three car garage. In the back of one of the bays there was a small room (10x10ish) that was dug down five feet below the rest of the garage. It was poured concrete the same age as the rest of the garage, but for the life of us we could not figure out what that would be for. Any ideas? My wife didnt like my Silence of the Lambs jokes.
