And what about games where the story is woven into the gameplay like Shadow of the Colossus or Gone Home?

I don't know much about Shadow of the Colossus, but Gone Home I'll let slide because the gameplay doesn't really exist without the story.
I'm surprised at the civility of the comments. I just trashed things many of you enjoy, and you've all been polite. I'm actually really disappointed.

The Walking Dead (TellTale) wouldn't be much of a game without a story.

 Sorry. If I was trying harder to offend, I would say your opinion is probably borne out of having reasonably narrow taste and an unwillingness to leave a certain comfort zone.

If you want to get flamed I suggest you broach this topic over at gamefaqs. You'll go down a storm.

Hmm, I might consider that. If I don't get enough death threats and unfounded assumptions about my sexuality by tomorrow I might deleted all these posts and move myself over to Gamefaqs.

Maybe this will give me the desired results:
Video games are not and will never be art.

Okay, okay, I'll stop.
Seriously though, I meant what I said. In my opinion, video games are not an art form. They are just fun toys. That's all.

3DSStrider wrote:I guess I should explain my opinions on JRPGs. In my last post I simply called them boring and left it at that. When I wrote that post I was kind of tired and didn't feel like typing very much.

First of all, the gameplay. JRPG gameplay requires neither skill nor strategy. Attack, attack, fire spell, attack. Next turn: attack, attack, fire spell, healing spell. Rinse and repeat until you realize how stupid this is and shut the game off.
Many turn-based JRPGs require skill and strategy. Good luck trying to simply hack 'n heal your way through The 7th Saga or Etrian Odyssey.

Also, when you say dislike JRPGs are you speaking simply of the traditional Dragon Quest/Final Fantasy styled games? What about other RPGs from Japan that aren't in the traditional turn-based style: action-RPGs, strategy RPGs, rouguelikes, etc.....?
Finally, someone went there haha. It is a bit much to completely pass off an entire genre, but yeah.

Not to backup 3DSStrider, but what I really dislike are games that play themselves. Uncharted, etc. Control is completely 100% stripped from your hands throughout multiple portions of the game. On another hand, I think the idea of even those getting movie adaptations is still bonkers and completely pointless. I don't mind getting a group of buddies together and watching people marathon those games over a weekend or something, but otherwise... they are a real struggle for me to get through. I think Uncharted 2 took me a few weeks to beat, when it's like 8 hours long max? I could only manage like 30 minute intervals. lol. Enslaved was another one.
