The new store is OK, but I liked the old store better (because is was much, much closer to my office  ). Since the store uses videogamepricecharts.com to price its games, the prices there are fair for "cart-only" games but very good for CIB games. (The store often prices common CIB games at "cart-only/disc-only" prices.)

Also, the selection is spectacular, and I am willing to pay a bit more if it saves me from having to drive all over Charlotte looking for games. My only concern is that it is a bit too close to Savepoint Videogames - which is an excellent store BTW - and I hope that The Grid does not hurt its business too much.

Ssshhh!!! The Last Word is a secret!

.....

Also, if anyone is thinking of making a trip to The Grid, please send me a PM. I would be delighted to meet up (and to have an excuse to visit the store).

Oh good, more complaining about Goodwill. Look, if you want to whine, whine about people donating a box of games instead of selling them to you for $10 for the lot or something.

So people donate their games to goodwill and it goes to this store and they sell it for massive profit? Or are they actually buying peoples used games?

I'm surprised by the amount of hating in this thread. Remember that Goodwill employs countless blind, deaf, and mentally retarded people who otherwise would have no jobs whatsoever. A lot has been said about fair wages, but most goodwills that I have seen pay equal to or better than minimum wage.

I know. I know. People want their video games cheap, however, and they will will heap hate upon anyone who tries to to sell them at market prices.

Not to join in on the hate but I did join in on the fun and visited not long after they moved and compared to the old store I liked the old one better. Even though the use of vgpc bugs me. I understand they have to make some money on them but some games no matter how popular aren't worth the price tag to me. Now if I could just get a internship I might make some more visits for my "essential" games that I'm trying to stick to buying only from now on until I move out(since I am missing a good chunk of the big name games for my retro stuff that I really want). The good thing is most games I could want right now they generally have it and they have some nice cib stuff...

I personally just started "re-collecting" games a year ago, but I think some people that have been finding gold out there for years are just not coping with the fact that the party is pretty much over. If you find an old video game somewhere nowadays, there's probably a 2/3 chance you're paying what it's worth and that's just the way it is.

Yeah you pay full value a lot these days but I just look at it as paying for obtainability. The less I find stuff out in the wild the more I go to the used store and pay full price for a few games. It's just quantity vs. quality not counting a crazy rare score every once in awhile.

I get that goodwill hires the unhirable in most cases, but have you ever looked what they pay people with disabilities? Chinese 10 year olds working for Nike make more an hour.

I could care less if I can get a deal there or not, I stopped shopping it for games a few years ago. I don't like how they work on the whole as a non-profit, and they used to also tout how they helped out communities in need with deals on stuff, and even the common junk is going up in price too which doesn't help the poor.

On the whole I've become pretty chill as I realize the price playing sharks between random locals, nintendoage types, ebay regulars with stores, whatever you can put into 'reason' have pushed things to where finding a deal is like finding a four leaf clover. I haven't bought a NES or SNES game in a long time as I got fed up with it and if I do at this rate anymore it'll be some cheap common for a distraction if that. I decided I'd rather throw my cash at Famicom and GBA when it comes to Nintendo now as they're not soured which makes for a happier no stress time. Worrying about deals at Goodwill is pointless and has been for awhile since they started quoting ebay in stores and stuffing a lot into their shop goodwill website so it's just pointless to get hot over it.

For me, it's frustrating to see people angry at this on two levels.

One: it's a charity for fuck sake. From some basic research I can see it's not a perfect operation but you have to remember that before places like Goodwill and Scope(in the UK) were founded, people with disabilities got NO work and most were not seen as "real" people.

Two: you are lucky to have this. Charity shops over here, even big ones, rarely have anything videogame related beyond a bunch of PS2 sports titles and some PC shovelware. This place looks like friggin' Mecca compared to my local Oxfam.

I don't like how much SNES games have gone up either but it is what it is and blaming a charity shop for price hikes just seems reductive.
