Seems its not just us who think there needs to be a shift in games and gamers for the Wii

And agreed. Nickelback do suck the big fat one.

Honestly, I expect "Deadly Creatures" to be a thoroughly average game, one that would have been generally overlooked if released on a system like the PS2. Since it's on the Wii you just know there's going to be lots of complaining if it doesn't sell well (which is a very likely possibility). I know I sound like a Nintendo fanboy right now but have there really been any triple-A third party games on the Wii? No, not really
.
On topic...it was inevitable. It's only logical that the game packed with a system that's on its way to becoming one of the most popular of all time should sell so well. Yes, if the PS2 had had a life-long pack-in that would definitely be at the top, but it didn't. Also, no one has mentioned yet that Wii Sports isn't packed-in in Japan and it still sold a few million copies if memory serves. It's likely that Wii Sports would have sold well in the west too. Enough to become the all-time best seller? Of course not.
I don't completely grasp why "core gamers" (especially people like us that lean towards retro games) are so upset about the success of casual games. As long as there are hardcore gamers to sell to there will be hardcore games, regardless of what's going on in other sectors of gaming. It's as simple as that, so stop worrying so much.

I would just like to point out, while we're complaining about Nintendo's quality control, that they did have it for a long time, and the end result was that it angered many of the third party producers of games, which continued to hurt Nintendo through the Gamecube.
In fact, I'd compare the Nintendo Wii to the Atari VCS. Gluts of games are being produced for it, though the quality for many of these titles is next to nil. There are some excellent games for it if you're willing to search, but what with the amount of poorly designed games, it's tough to get the word out about them.
Most likely this will only work for this generation, the public will lose interest, and Nintendo will be faced with a serious problem. What with Sony's money problems, Microsoft's horrendous technical issues, Nintendo's apparent lack of quality control, and a recession...the question I have is, is there a potential market crash in our near future?

Nintendo isn't too bad, at least they still put out decent games on the DS every once in a while.
And I wonder if Apple will ever make a console... I know the ipod touch is starting to be considered a platform now, but I'm not counting that.

Is this a shock too anyone? The Wii has been doing amazing sale numbers and Wii sports is the pack in game. If you ask me the Wii is not worth $250, The library is filled with just terrible ''games''. I don't count the virtual console as a part of the Wii library. If you ask me the Xbox 360 arcade is the better deal of the two. But the 360 is seen as a ''shooter box'' and is seen as not accessible to non hardcore gamers.

Off topic... To me, I'm glad the Wii has been a success. If it had failed as the 64 and GC did, who knows what Nintendo's next move would have been. As is, hopefully the Wii has loaded them with enough cash to turn out a great console next gen. Yes, many of the casual gamers will not move on to the next gen. But hopefully Nintendo has built enough good will with 3rd parties they will be able to turn out traditional "gamer" games next gen.
On topic... No real surprise. SMB was mostly packed in with the NES so it is a fair comparison. However, if you adjust for population growth, I'm sure SMB would still be #1. In movies, Gone with the Wind is #1 when you look at adjusted gross income, but Titanic is #1 in actual dollars.

I'm not sure these people will jump ship when the next gen rolls round - they broke type and bought a console admid all the hype and press attention this time around and I'm sure they will again next time. It will be the latest fad with even more gadets attached to it.
