I'm slogging away at Halo 2's campaign for the summer gaming challenge.
It is OK.

The Destiny beta put me in the mindset to replay this. There is something about it that I half remember hating. Some of levels later on I think. Great music though.prfsnl_gmr wrote:I'm slogging away at Halo 2's campaign for the summer gaming challenge.

I beat Singularity. I agree that it's a bit of a hidden gem even if it is also a frankenstein's monster of other games.

Wolfenstein The New Order. It is shockingly good. I love the feel of the combat/gun play. Not too big a surprise since I felt the same about the combat in RAGE. But at least in Wolf the narrative is more interesting.

Since last week's acquisition of Metroid Prime Trilogy, I've been playing through Prime 1. I absolutely love this game and can't believe a game this polished was made in 2002. But my heart belongs with Prime 2. Can't wait!
Re: What single player FPS campaign are you playing?
Well, having worked my way through my second playthrough of Borderlands, I now have a level 69 Roland and have only the long games left in the Underdome. I made it through 20 rounds at Angelic Ruins yesterday. That leaves The Gully and Hell-burbia, and then I'm done with this game.
Since I'm doing the long games in multiplayer, I've also decided to hop back into Portal and grab the few remaining achievements I never earned, which means I have to do another playthrough for all of the security cameras and radios, and I have to earn gold medals in the remaining challenges I never finished. And dear God, that is a pain in the ass.

Ok so Far Cry is getting better, but that first battle with Crowe was kind of a pain. The new OICW makes things a lot easier. I don't have much farther to go, and I hear the story gets rather interesting.

And yeah, the Flood are awful. Much prefer the Space Pirates Prometheans from Halo 4.

Well, I finished Portal quite quickly and have moved onto Receiver.
And Jesus, Receiver is tough and has a learning curve. My best run so far has only netted me 2 cassettes out of 11. I also find I'm a bigger fan of the revolver than the Glock 9mm or the 1911, though admittedly I've only gotten the 1911 once after about a dozen plays. The Glock 9mm seems the most common. I am getting better at the game though, particularly as I learn more about the two enemy types that I have encountered: turrets and drones. I hate the drones.

Played a few minutes of Receiver, that game is hard.Ack wrote:Well, I finished Portal quite quickly and have moved onto Receiver.

Yes, yes it is. I like it though, and I have found that after spending an hour with it, I've definitely seen improvement in how I play. I've also discovered that you can fix the pistol to the center of the screen in the options menu, which alleviates some of the difficulty, and since there are only a handful of preset rooms to explore, eventually you start to get their layout. Sentry turrets also aren't as hard to deal with as I thought, but those drones are nasty. I have to come up with a way to effectively counter them.
