Edit: To quote the incomparable (and venerable) bash.org?

If you pre order at Game Stop I hear they offer a voucher to download 4 different outfits!

It also reminds me of the Dead Rising 3 DLC

Super Ultra Dead Rising 3 Arcade Remix Hyper Edition EX Plus Alpha Prime which is pretty fun. (Hearing the announcer scream it might be the best part)

Heh that bash.org quote is probably a decade old or more at this point, well predates the DLC days... but yeah, that's creeping in too.
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!

Games that Push Hardware Limits - Game Sack

Post by Redifer »

In this fun episode we look at some games that do some amazing things on the consoles they're running on. Racketboy has at least one article on this very same subject so this video should appeal to at least 3 or 4 of you! :)

Watch it right now when you have time.

Was expecting to see Recca and Batman: Return of the Joker there, nice.

In Recca the red power-ups are your secondary weapon, you fire them by holding the other button down. They do also block your bullets. But the trick is to charge your main shot while firing your secondary weapon.

As impressive as Recca's normal mode is, it has a hidden mode that taxes the system even more. In this hidden Zanki Mode every enemy destroyed releases bullets upon death, so the screen will be flickering a lot as you play. Youtube videos can't quite express the insanity due to being 30 FPS only. The only way through the mode is to strategically use your charge shot, since it absorbs enemy bullets as it's charging up. In a real cartridge the mode is only accessible with a somewhat complex code, but people have made rom hacks of it where it's directly accessible from the main menu.

I didn't really care for Gran Tursimo 2 either, being a far bigger fan of the arcade-style racers myself. You might wanna check out Motor Toon Grand Prix (US title, released as Motor Toon Grand Prix 2 in Japan and Europe), it's also from Polyphony Digital and is a pretty great kart racer. Even if you don't like kart racers it's worth checking out, as it does things a bit differently and the game has plenty of hidden unlockable things to keep one interested.

Woo Recca. Zanac has an amazing amount of stuff going on sometimes with no slowdown too, especially for such an early game. Alien Soldier is on the PS2 J 2500 series Gunstar Heroes release, for those that want to give it a whirl.

Crisis Force has all those neat effects and parallax happening too on Famicom. Ranger X does some pretty cool things on the Gen in that tube level and with colors in general. Delta (Delta Patrol) on the C64 put your score and weapon powerup indicators in the upper and lower border area of the screen, which was something that wasn't supposed to be possible as that was outside the display area. Street Fighter 2 on the PC Engine is pretty amazing, especially compared to the other "really 16 bit" versions.

I love this kinda stuff and this was a great episode.

I also adore the ending joke. I know I say that a lot, but seriously.

Question though, regarding Street Fighter Zero 2: Is there any reason to pick the japanese version over the US version, aside from the price?

You mean Street Fighter Zero 3? Well Alpha 3 didn't come out in the US for the Saturn, so there's that.

Ah, yeeeeaah, I see now I mixed 'em up. Well that was stupid of me.

Thanks for responding just the same.

Looking at the prices now though, I may have to just stick to the Dreamcast version. Turns out it's not cheap on Saturn.
