When I was a kid I thought "87 gas" was from 1987 and so on...

If it makes you feel less stupid, when I was a kid I thought "Don't drink and Drive" meant you couldn't drink any beverage at all while driving.

I could create an entire thread about car misconceptions. Before I drove for the first time (age 15) I didn't realize that a car would roll on its own without applying pressure to the gas pedal. I thought it was either push down on the gas hard or the car would come to a dead stop. So the first time I drove I floored it.

I was also nervous as hell about driving because I sucked at Out Run. Yeah. The Sega game.

Awwww yeah! Would love to play the Shining Force RPGs on that screen.

OK, so, arachnophobia is the fear of spiders. Gephyrophobia is fear of bridges. So on and so forth. Is there a defined phobia for fear of being pooped on by birds? I don't know why, but I've always been super conscious of the possibility of getting pooped on by a bird. I even had a contingency plan thought up if it ever happened at my last job.

I've always heard it was good luck if a bird pooped on you. Anyone else ever hear that? Is it just a Maine thing?

Everyone in NH always told me that too. I didn't believe it.
