A line of DVDs with excellent quality. They're really good about compiling trailers and information on the film as well as repairing it so it's closer to the original(since a lot of the older films are falling apart). The version of The Seventh Seal I watched was Criterion, and they actually had a feature where they discussed the restoration. There was some interesting stuff on there.
Re: Criterion Collectors?
OMG!
The Seventh Seal is the reason and justification for Criterion in my opinion. The featurette on the restoration of the original film stock is incredible. Side-by-side comparisons and everything.
I don't remember what else I've seen on criterion, but I know that it's expensive, but could be worth the extra scratch if the film is special enough.

Just looked at this: http://www.play.com/DVD/Region_1/6-/Sea ... chsource=1
I already have Armageddon, The Rock, Chasing Amy and Spartacus what makes the Criterion ones any different to my none 'collection' DVDs. Besides the fact that Critierion Collection is Region 1 only. Are any of the films in particular that are really worth my time getting?

Re: Criterion Collectors?
The Criterion Collection just consists of classic or quirky films, high quality releases, and very high production standards. That's all. When you get a CC DVD you know you're getting a quality release with a lot of care put into it.
And yeah, I'm in Ohio.
I should note, however, that when I used to drive from TN to Ohio and back along 75 I would always see tons of Michigan and Ontario plates. Seems they love Florida, too.

Yes, it's that Brazil. It's a really great collection with 3 different endings and a ton of special features. Great stuff.lordofduct wrote:My DVD copy of Brazil isn't from Criterion Collection... weird. You're talking about Terry Gilliam's Brazil right???TheyCallMeTheSwede wrote:Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

I am thinking of getting Brazil, since there is no other copy available, and maybe eventually Seven Samurai.
I love the Criterion Collection. It's super awesome. Taking original masters, converting them to high quality digital formats, getting directors/cinematographers/writers/producers/actors on board to make sure it's an accurate version, plus getting the above stated to do commetary and interviews, adding lots of special features, creating high quality packaging....etc...etc...i could go on. Great company.
I own a few, would like to own more, they are just so expensive. Get on the mailing list and they have contests and coupons almost every month. Kurosawa Samurai Collection (Hidden Fortress, Yojimbo, Sanjuro, 7 Samurai), Rashamon, Red Beard, Kwaidan, The Tin Drum, Yi Yi, and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

Re: Criterion Collectors?
The Brazil Criterion was amazing.
Re: Criterion Collectors?
Watching CC's Ingmar Bergman films will open your mind. Trust me.
Re: Criterion Collectors?
Unfortunately I tend not to buy movies very often, so only one of mine is Criterion Collection, Samurai I. It's the beginning of the Samurai trilogy about the life of Miyamoto Musashi, played by Toshiro Mifune. Absolute classic.

what i like a lot about it too, is that you get to see a lot of films that started it all, they release a lot of movies that otherwise i never would have seen, two that i really want to get but are out of print are hardboiled and killer, two amazing films
