I agree but the price as it is isn't too bad considering all the great games. It's a pretty nice secondary system.flex wood wrote:I think it would be a good idea for Nintendo to drop the price on the Wii u going into the holiday season but I don't think it'll happen. Honestly I think they won't drop the price until next year and are going to bank on their IP's to push consoles for the holiday this year.

Whoops, guess I've just added the first 6 Mega Man games to my backlog...
Pretty sure they're all the US versions. Most PAL eShop games are these days.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Strongly, STRONGLY considering pruning my pile a tiny bit. Nothing major by any means, but some of the early 2nd gen systems that I acquired as a curiosity and have literally never turned on after the initial powerup to prove I didn't get a dud? Those can go. My 3 spare 2600's? Those can go. I'll keep a spare SNES, a spare Genny, a couple spare NESes (my favorite system). But most of my dupes can go away.
I'll still keep all my games, I've grown to love the shelf candy. But some of the systems that aren't hooked up and never have been hooked up... those are on the chopping block.
Be on the lookout for: a boxed Odyssey^2 (no styrofoam, no instructions, just a box) and 2-3 boxed games... a Channel F with a pile of games, some boxed... at least 1 Genny... at least 2 2600s... possibly a 32x... and I'm sure some other stuff I'm forgetting. Maaaaaybe my Vectrex, but I do kinda like that one as a conversation piece.
Likely appearing in my BST thread in September when I'm off work for a couple weeks and have some time to come up with reasonable prices and a pile of boxes.

Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!
Cheat sheet of my collection, always looking to increase it. 405/677 licensed games, 46/"95" unlicensed

Finally got a NES (a clone but still counts!) knowing my luck now i will never ever be able to find any games for it, for a decent price.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I decided to buy myself a super nice headset and now I know I'll never be able to go back to hearing my games on a $30 set of Turtle Beaches ever again.
It's not something many people think about but sound is a really important aspect in game design. It's nice to finally hear everything properly. Haven't had the chance to test the mic out yet but it's apparently pretty great too.
It's a Sennheiser G4ME Zero set. Probably best described as a nice pair of headphones with a boom mic attached.

Older. Not wiser.

Stuck a hard drive in my PS2, amazing stuff.

Tell me about it. My favorite is when someone is showing you their expensive new TV with a very large screen. "Look at how GOOD it looks!!!" - "Yes, but it sounds like shit!"RyaNtheSlayA wrote:It's not something many people think about but sound is a really important aspect in game design. Cool. So are you using OPL with FMCB, or HD Advance or something?TSTR wrote:Stuck a hard drive in my PS2, amazing stuff.

OPL 0.9.2 with FMCB 1.9.4.Ziggy587 wrote:Cool. So are you using OPL with FMCB, or HD Advance or something?TSTR wrote:Stuck a hard drive in my PS2, amazing stuff.
I went a really roundabout way of installing it. First, I threw the FHDB noob package on the HDD, installed FMCB, then wiped the HDD because I'd rather have that 7 GB for games (and I won't use 75% of the stuff that comes with it).
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Huh... so this way, you end up playing stuff fairly authentically then?TSTR wrote:OPL 0.9.2 with FMCB 1.9.4.Ziggy587 wrote:Cool. So are you using OPL with FMCB, or HD Advance or something?TSTR wrote:Stuck a hard drive in my PS2, amazing stuff.

I've wanted to do this for some undubs someday.
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I reckon so; I'm mainly playing ripped ISOs of my collection to save my laser (and also the occasional pricey import). But I'm not using GSM or widescreen hacks or anything, because my PS2 is still hooked to my CRT.
Mainly I just wanted to only have the homebrew apps available that I wanted, and the FHDB noob package comes with all kinds of "useless to me" stuff like old versions of HDLoader, an NES emulator, a media player, etc. And again, it takes up ~7 GB of valuable hard drive space, where as my FMCB install only takes up ~2.5 MB of a memory card.
I would just use PCSX2 on my PC, but I find for stuff that requires reflexes (basically anything not a RPG), it's useless due to input lag.
On an unrelated note, my GF is playing A Boy & His Blob on the Wii right now. THERE IS A HUG COMMAND IN THIS GAME—OMG THIS IS THE CUTEST THING EVER!
