I'm still confused on where to put the firmware update. Do I just drag it to the memory stick folder?

I think so. It will look like a "game" when you open the PSP memory stick from the PSP.

The USB is generic. Check thrift shops.

Too bad memory sticks are rather small. It takes workarounds like micro sd adapters to exceed 32gb (as far as I can tell "Memory Stick XC" is vaporware).
