Famicom-to-NES Converter - Any Feedback Appreciated

Post by ElkinFencer10 »

So I was poking around a retro game store today, and I stumbled across this - a Famicom-to-NES converter. Now, I know that some NES cartridges have these 60-pin to 72-pin converters inside them, but I never really liked the idea of cannibalizing cartridges (not to mention that it seems like it would be a pain and beyond my capability to jury rig a working converter since I'm not really willing to Frankenstein NES and Famicom cartridges.

Now, I've seen NES-to-Famicom converters sold online, and I've seen the actual chips from inside the NES cartridges that convert them like I mentioned earlier, but this is the first time I've seen one that I can just plug other cartridges into and insert like an NES cartridge. I know it's obviously done cheaply by some sketchy third party, but I thought it was neat and worth picking up. Works like a charm, too. Now my question about is if anyone's seen these around and what they're usually worth?

With it also came this 200-in-1 bootleg Famicom cartridge. I've got two questions about this for those wiser than I. The first is what it's probably worth. I know these tend to be pretty cheap, but I'm just curious. My second question is more of an opinion question and especially directed at those who use Backloggery. How should I list this on my collection page? I've normally used the compilation feature and listed each game separately when in a collection like this tied together in a single compilation - Super Mario All Stars or Metroid Prime Trilogy, for example. What about this, though? There are 200 of these games. Should I just throw it up there as "Famicom 200-in-1" as a Null listing or should I not list it at all? I'm just curious about opinions.

Sorry if I'm sounding a wee bit nooby here; though I've been playing NES my whole life, I've only recently expanded my interest into Famicom, so I'm not that well versed with the NES's Japanese sister. Thanks for your patience and input, guys!

Those converters are fairly common, and usually sell around the $20-ish range.

The pirate cart is probably worth around $10-$15, unless there are any highly desirable games on it. Many of these contain similar games, and in some cases, multiple versions of the same titles with hacks.

Famicom collecting is fun to get into, and many games can be had rather affordably.

Ah, thanks for the info, guys! I've never seen a converter like this, so I wasn't sure how common they were. Any thoughts on listing this on my Backloggery?

Converters are around $20 or more, but not much more, except for the Honeybee by reputation people pay more on especially the gold one.

The multicart those things value around $20-30 for people who know better in a NES shell and less in a famicom one due to the need of a converter in most cases, take it to ebay and hope that it's not shut down they can go for a good bit more if you get people fighting over it thinking they can pay like a quarter or dollar a game on it and feel its a deal. I have a 115in1 in a NES shell and a 260in1 Golden game in a famicom. In my lists I put them at the very top as 115in1 Supervision (or 260in1 Golden Game) as it makes it easy to find and place.

If you're into screwy stuff like this, they also exist for the SNES too as far as old Nintendo stuff goes for consoles. Other systems got them too, just not as many.

I was planning to hang on to it for shits and giggles. I was just curious what it went for to see how much I overpaid. I paid $50 for the converter and the 200-in-1. Since I bought it from a local retro game store, I knew I'd overpaid a bit, but my philosophy on is that I don't mind overpaying a bit at local stores since I don't pay for or wait for shipping and I'm supporting not only a local business but also a retro game store. From what yall have said about the value of the game and converter, I'd say that's definitely in my "acceptable overpaying" range.

I don't know why people pay $100 for a famicom or NES multicart when you can buy a Everdrive or NES power pak for that price and have 100% of the library plus any hacks/translations you like.

Emulators take the fun out of the hunt for me. I like the novelty of owning the pirate carts, and I like the excitement of finding things in retro stores rather than downloading or ordering them whenever I feel like it.

I'm aware, but that doesn't negate my point about the excitement of hunting for games in shops. I've got nothing against flash carts; they're just not my cup of tea. Never really been the biggest fan of homebrews.
