How are these things?

Post by TheyCallMeTheSwede »

http://cgi.ebay.com/New-4-Pin-S-Video-t ... 1|294%3A50

I am thinking experimenting with my RCA cables but converting the Yellow cord with an S-video and use it with my LCD TV, So I was wondering, how is it? and is it worth purchasing?

if going from svid to rca, decrease picture quality.

going rca to svid, no change or barely if any in picture quality... depends souly on how shitty the cable is.

use it? Only if you don't have one or the other port to attach the device with. i.e. your pc puts out an svid signal, but your tv only takes rca.

See rca and svid are pretty freakin' similar. They are on the YUV colour scale which is b+w signal and colour signal together. RCA puts them on the same wire (hence the name composite), and S-vid carries the chroma/colour info seperate from the luminance/BW info. We used it because if you plug a colour NTSC YUV signal into a B+W tv it works in B+W. That's why these converters are bi-directional... the resulting svid signal is actually just colour on both. The tv doesn't notice the difference what so ever.

I was thinking more of a RCA to S-video kind of a thing, the main reason why I am asking is because I want to test out consoles like Genesis and NES, since there is no such thing as a S-video on nether systems, there are mods on a Genesis but its too pricey for me. I mainly want to NES because it looks like a mess on LCD screens.

It's gonna look exactly the same on your LCD. This little doo-dad does NOT improve video quality at all.
