For small heatshrink tube jobs I actually glide the neck of my soldering iron all around the surface of the tube. I mean not the tip but the the wide straight part inside of which the element is.
For larger heatshrink jobs I use heatgun.
I pretty much never use flame, it works but I find it easier to screw up when using flame.
Heat Shrink Tubing , a small issue im having
Re: Heat Shrink Tubing , a small issue im having
hi guys , ive been busy looking after Phoebe shes going through ' heat ' for the first time
she had a few rough days but she is ok now , even though she will have a touch of it for another 2 weeks or so then we are getting her fixed.
now back to the topic.............
ive read all tips and suggestions and they are fantastic , i gave a hair dryer a shot and boom it works with the 125 C stuff i got and no burn marks at all.
the shrink im using for this particular project is just enough to get 2 wires in it , im not attempting 6 times bigger then shrink to my wires.
i would have but i just removed the shrink from the 2 wires and then put on the 125 C shrink and used the hair dryer on it.
theres one of the culprits , i was getting the flame directly on the shrink........great tip Hobe.
yes i was using a Bic , and lol ............as some of you may know im from Oz and in my time ive never heard of any reports on TV or from people about crack being here and it being rampant like in the US.
like i mentioned all tips are fantastic and im bookmarking this page

Can you post a before and after picture of the seal?

Don't get the flame directly on the shrink. You want it to be a few centimeters below the subject.

Also, what kind of lighter are you using? A Bic or similar is what you want. Not a crack pipe blow torch lighter!

Re: Heat Shrink Tubing , a small issue im having
i just tried to thread 1 wire through the 2.0MM Heat Shrink and it got stuck about 66% of the way down.
do you guys have any tips ?
im thinking i got the wrong Heat Shrink size and i need 3MM instead , i have 2 wires that need to go into one tube they are about 1MM each

Re: Heat Shrink Tubing , a small issue im having
back with some more info..............
i managed to get the X1 1MM wire 90% through the tubing and it just wouldnt go any further.
so i cut the last 10% off and soldered the X2 1MM wires to the X1MM and started pulling
and it got stuck god damnit
so ive removed all the Heat Shrink and im doubling the diameter to 4MM , ive already purchased it and should be here next week

I use the thick part of the soldering iron to shrink the shrink tubing I use, works great.
