But you probably didn't. The bid increment will be 1 or 2 at that point so they could have bid $100. The only time you know you were outbid by just a little bit is when someone beats you by less than the minimum increment.

I took collection of my latest NGPC bundle this morning:



The games on the right are all duplicates (in some cases triplicates) of games I already have but the 11 games on the left are all new to my collection. I'll resell the duplicates and probably the main console as I already have two NGPC's and one of them is this colour.

Aside from adding Faselei and Gals Fighters to my collection and bolstering it with some other titles I've been looking to add for a while there was a further nice surprise.

One of the titles on the left was a mystery Japanese cartridge which the seller had described as "I think it's horse racing".

I booted it up expecting to find Neo Derby Champ and was surprised instead to see giant mech robots and the promise of an RPG.

Yup, it was Bio Motor Unitron 2!

Horse racing, indeed!

This is my current collection as it stands:



My idea when I started was initially to try and collect every western released game, which I think is a modest target, only reaching herculian proportions when it comes to tracking down some of the rarest PAL releases.

I also had a couple of rules. I wouldn't bother getting the cheap cash in fruit machine stuff until I'd got all the actual games and, secondly, I'd try to do so by focusing on bundles picking up bargains and reselling spares. For this reason I let a copy of Evolution go when it reached £200 on ebay recently. I'm not sure if that will turn out to be a mistake or not given how rarely it shows up.

I've had some good success, through bundles I've managed to snag Cotton, Gals Fighters and Faselei at rock bottom prices. Looking at my list the only games I now need to complete my initial target are The two Dive Alerts, Puyo Pop, Magical Drop, Last Blade, Cool Borders and Evolution. There are then the five "junk" games to collect just for completion.

I've also decided that as I'm keeping two of the devices I should start hanging onto duplicate carts for two player link up features like unlocking all the clubs in Neo Turf Masters and so on. I've also made it a rule to keep any carts with alternate covers (NA/PAL) just...well, just because. I'm presuming that NA and European carts link up just fine.

For now, owning the cartridges only is a good option (although I do have a few boxed games as you can see). Eventually I would like my next goal to be upgrading select titles to boxed and complete. I'm only going to collect the European snapshell cases as they are much nicer and easier to maintain.

My next step is to sell one of the black units and the seven games pictured underneath them....unless I discover they have link up potential.

I also need to get me a linkup cable.

In terms of Japanese games I would like to add Big Bang Pro Wrestling to my collection but I'm unsure if there are any other Japanese exclusives that are worth collecting. Any advice on this from more experienced collectors would be appreciated.

I'm not sure what further stretch goals to have: Maybe collecting the original B&W titles would be a thing for far into the future...maybe by that time someone will have built a good backlit clone unit to play them all on.

I had a quick blast of Metal Slug Second Mission today and was extremely impressed by the upgrade in sound with digitized speech for each weapon pickup.

Then I booted up Faselei and...wow, an entire song in the opening credits! The little beast continues to impress me.

Thanks for the update on the neo drama. I guess I still find it hard to believe that no former SNK US employees could come out of the woodwork to confirm/deny the existence of the AF3 copies. I know it wasn't the most organized place in the world, but you'd think there would be a few of them hanging out in the forums. I would be, just for the bragging rights

That might seem pricey but, after reselling the duplicate games and the system itself the remaining games I'm left with will have cost me about £5 each, which is a decent price to pay for any single NGPC cart, let alone the rarer ones like Faselei and Gals Fighters.

Even if I kept everything 21 games and a spare system was a good deal I think. I see Faselei and Gal's fighters carts going quite often on ebay for £40ish.

Buying bundles has really helped me with getting some of the rarer games and filling out my collection cheaply. Managed to get Cotton this way too for an even better deal.

Now if I can just find a cheap link up cable...

Knowing what those games go for, I wouldn't have said £100 was pricey at all. You got a steal, chief, especially considering you can make some of it back on the resells. And if you decide to get rid of some of your triplicate games, please keep us in mind. You've got a few extras of things that I don't have.

I was looking at your collection and noticed you have a game called "Picture Puzzle". That's another one that I forgot about and will now have to keep an eye out for.

In other news I have acquired a boxed and complete EU Faselei today to go with my American cart. I bought it for a fine price. No really, I got a good deal. Just got to wait for it to arrive now. Reading up on it though it seems it's compatible with the link cable so might keep that extra cart after all.
