It is the holy grail of games I've always wanted to play - I dont have a chipped Saturn, and I cant afford a proper copy, neither SSF or Mame emulate it satisfactorily for me either
please please please make this happen
'In the end it didn't work out. It was tough, but those were great days and I've never met anybody who regretted buying a Dreamcast.'
I'd love to believe it would get enough support on XBLA. Ikaruga sold average at best and it is better known than this title in the mainstream. All 20,000 360 owners who care about retro shmups would buy it day one. Thats about it.
It'd be a terrific choice for a rerelease, just by merit of making the game more accessible, but they'd have to fix up those polys to get my dough. RSG is meant to be a "blockbuster" type of game, and while it still generally looks fantastic, the bosses could certainly do for a makeover. For it to have the same impact now as it did back in the day, they'd have to make it sparkle again.
When you consider the fact that the Saturn controller had one of the greatest d-pads in history, and pair that with the fact that the 360 simply doesn't have an optimal button layout for the game, there would have to be some work done to make it a worthwhile purchase for those who already have the game. And despite the price, that's no small amount of people.
I'd be a tad leery at Treasure getting carried away though, and altering it too much... but then again, if they made it a completely new game that would be even more awesome!
I would like to see it happen. Never have had an opportunity to play this game before. Heard dozens claim it to be amazing, and knew a handful of people who claimed to have either played it or owned it. I'd like to play it, but never wanted to even attempt the ebay sniping wars to try and get the game for my Saturn. Would be cool to have it on Live Arcade along with the other great Shooters I'm currently playing on Xbox 360. Now, if they could get Raiden DX on Live Arcade as well, that would be awesome.
env963 - Why did you get a PS3? For the Shooter fan, Xbox 360 is where it is at my friend.
