N64 Weird problem...won't play Mario 64 and...

Post by serge85 »

Hello guys, Recently I acquired a Gold N64...beautiful and all that, But I found a problem when trying to play Mario 64...after the initial "It's a me Mario!" the game goes to a black screen and that's that, It doesn't Load the mario face, etc... I tried a japanese version and again, the seame problem.

So, I began to try other games, Mario Kart 64, Mystical Ninja, Mario Party, Doom, Kirby...they all worked well, And then I tried Indiana Jones and the infernal machine, and this is what I get: Image

The pins are clean, and the games ( both mario 64 and indiana jones) works perfect in other N64.

Anyone knows what could be the cause or the root of the problem?

Thanks!

The picture that you posted... What kind of TV is that? CRT, LCD/LED, Plasma? And what type of connection are you using for the N64 (ie: RF, composite, S-Video, etc).

Try it on another TV, preferably a CRT. Try it on as many different TVs as you can.

If you don't have any other TVs to try it out on, and you're using an HDTV, then try this: Put the TV on a different input. Turn on Mario 64 and blindly load File A (it shouldn't be hard, just keep pressing start then A, the hand cursor automatically loads hovering over the File A if I recall correctly). Once you think you have loaded the file, switch the TV to the input the N64 is plugged in to and see if you get a picture.
