Wowie wow.

Yet another BookOff run for me and a few surprises from other members.

Xbox Dai Senryaku VII - $5.00 BookOff
I picked up the PS2 version back in January, might as well snag the Xbox release as well. I remember this game being so crazy expensive on the Dreamcast and also the PS2 Sega Ages import. Slick military tactics game, a cross between Command Conquer and Battle Board table games.
Xbox Hunter The Reckoning - $5.00 BookOff
I have played the demo a few times, an overhead "Gauntlet" style of shooting endless Zombies. What got me hooked is the almost Twinstick Robotron feel of the game. Shoot direction with the right stick while moving in another direction with the left stick, nice! Hoping there is a cheat to make the Machine Gun have unlimited bullets.

Xbox Indigo Prophercy - $9.99 Game G Retro Store
Loved the PS2 version, had to get the Xbox release. The PS2 release is one of the few games that is temperamental with HDLoader, the Xbox version installs and runs just fine off the internal (EvoX Dashboard) hard drive.
PS2 Maximo Ghosts Glory - greedostick Digital Press
Ghosts is the better of the two Maximos, finally found a CIB on the cheap to augment my disc only copy.
Gamecube Sonic Gems - aaron
Good round of older Sonic games including Sonic CD! Read the Gamecube version was better then the PS2 release, glad to have bought this. Oh yeah and Genesis Vectorman 1 and 2 are unlocks in the disc!
Gamecube Hot Wheels World Race - aaron
Had the complete case and manual free from Gamestop for ages since they could not find the game disc. Finally got a CIB version with the help of aaron.
Wii Final Fantasy Chocobo Dungeon - $8.99 Gamestop
Having bought imports of PS1 Chocobo Dungeon 1 and 2, had to get the Wii version as well. Hey this game is quite fun! Not a difficult RPG but enough going on to keep wanting to explore and collect.

Wii Gremlins Gizmo - $29.99 2.99 ToysRUs
TRU had piles of these during the 75% off sale. Finally jumped at a copy when at 90% off mainly due to reading an exclusive game sold only at ToysRUs. Maybe a collectable in the future? An okay kids game clicking on various "Living Books" activities. The inspired though simplified Asteroids game of shoot the Gremlins on trikes hooked me to buy it.
PC Demigod - $1.00 Video Depot
No idea what it was when I bought it, but only a buck. Reading up looks like a multi player "Command Conquer" game, but it does offer single player as well.
DVD Song Of The South - $20.00 Collector Video Store

Oh I had to buy this even though inside was just a DVDR. So why toss away twenty bucks for something that could possibly be downloaded?

The movie NEVER had a US release due to possible lawsuits dealing with racial issues. Had to see for myself from the history controversy aspect of this. The seller had the import NTSCJ Laser disc for sale to a couple of hundred, also offered a direct transfer of the disc to DVD on the cheap. Made a cover and included the Laser Disc Logo on the back, a very nice dub.

Time magazine, although it praised the film, also cautioned that it was "bound to land its maker in hot water", because the character of Uncle Remus was "bound to enrage all educated Negroes and a number of damyankees". Adam Clayton Powell, Jr., a congressman from Harlem, branded the film an "insult to American minorities everything that America as a whole stands for." The National Negro Congress set up picket lines in theaters in the big cities where the film played, with its protesters holding signs that read "Song of the South is an insult to the Negro people" and, lampooning "Jingle Bells", chanted: "Disney tells, Disney tells lies about the South." Jewish newspaper Messenger of Los Angeles considered the film to be "tallying with the reputation that Disney is making for himself as an arch-reactionary".
At the same time, however, some black press had mixed reactions on what they thought of Song of the South. While Richard B. Dier in The Afro-American was "thoroughly disgusted" by the film for being "as vicious a piece of propaganda for white supremacy as Hollywood ever produced," Herman Hill in The Pittsburgh Courier felt that Song of the South would "prove of inestimable goodwill in the furthering of interracial relations", and considered criticisms of the film to be "unadulterated hogwash symptomatic of the unfortunate racial neurosis that seems to be gripping so many of our humorless brethren these days.
Disney Enterprises has avoided making the complete version of the film directly available on home video in the United States because the frame story was deemed controversial by studio management.
Lawrence of Arabia - $7.00 BookOff
In my renewed quest of gathering classic epic films, I had to upgrade my Laser Disc version. A nice two disc set enclosed in a "hardback book" case. This is a huge movie featuring Peter O'Toole, Alec Guinness, Omar Sharif and Anthony Quinn.
If you like great classic movies take a look at my Criterion Thread.

Genesis Vectorman - $5.00 BookOff
I am losing it. I mentioned earlier of owning this game as an unlock in GC Sonic Gems and even have it inside the Genesis 80 game PlugnPlay as well as multiple other emulated versions. Had to get the original cart due to it being one of the better Genesis games. In hopes of claiming playing the real thing, I plug this original cart in the cart slot of the Genesis PlugnPlay!

DVD Gradius Breakdown - greedostick Digital Press

A very very sweet Konami DVD showing history with video footage of all the Gradius games. A preorder bonus disc for PS2 Gradius V, at which I now store this DVD with. Take a guess what is considered the grandfather, the very first inspired Gradius game?
http://www.the-nextlevel.com/features/promos/gradius-v-breakdown/
First off, packaging. It's a cheap cardboard sleeve that, fortunately, fits inside the Gradius V game itself so at least it won't get lost. Nothing special here. Next up is the Gradius V section of the disk. The pink tunnel is from Level 4 and the bit with the asteroids is from Level 5. Needless to say, watching somebody not die at all through some of the barrages ranges from interesting to jaw-dropping.
On the history side of things, we've got a complete retrospective of every Gradius game ever made, although maybe not for every platform. In addition to gameplay footage there's also the FMV intros from the arcade compilation packs as well as the in-game intros and even box cover art. The first picture is an amazing shot of a menu screen, so the excitable among you may want to take a few deep breaths before looking too closely.
