You don't happen to suffer from ADD or ADHD do you? I don't mean that as an insult, honestly. My son has ADHD so I'm not passing judgment. I am having a hard time relating to your posts and I don't want to seem rude, so I was just curious. I don't mean to call you out either, not that it would be anything to be ashamed of, so feel free to PM me if the answer is yes and you don't want to publicly lay it out.JsGameRoom wrote:jp1 wrote:

My son is incredibly smart and gifted beyond anything I could have hoped at his age, so I really don't mean to sound like a jerk by asking.
Your radical life changes in a short period of time, which you considered a very long period of time, and some of the difficulties I have in understanding your intentions when you post are the main reasons I bring it up.
I used to lose my mind.. and crawl around the classroom.. call my teachers mom. Randomly going psychotic if I got an answer wrong. Among other things. It sucked.jp1 wrote:Concerta, which is a form of ritalin, has been a great help to my son. He went from being severely frustrated to being able to concentrate and put that fast thinking brain of his into overdrive. I don't suggest it to others because I am no doctor and I don't think it should be a first resort. I do think it can be a great tool for some people who actually need it though.
Docs still prescribe meds of that type like candy in my area...at schools request. In fact parents who refuse can be subjected to calls from child protective services.
Anyway, I'm still not sure what to make of that response...but thanks for not taking it as a personal attack because it wasn't meant as one.
Oh yeah? The condition was not well understood back then and I think many people (Docs, teachers, parents, etc.) were ill equipped to deal with it properly. Only throwing ritalin at it as you suggested happened in your case was not always the best or even the right option. My son and subsequently our family has benefited greatly from some extremely dedicated school staff who specialize in handling real cases of ADD/ADHD and picking them out from cases of behavior problems that stem from other causes.JsGameRoom wrote:I used to lose my mind.. and crawl around the classroom.. call my teachers mom. Not hard to imagine if gun control laws was somehow wedged in there. But let's not.MrPopo wrote:You know, it wouldn't surprise me to see a thread on Xbox light guns turn into a thread on social upheaval.dsheinem wrote:Ack wrote:

If I've been able to be born a white male, in a non poor country, not have any serious diseases that could cripple me financially, and work in a country with (for the time being) low unemployment, THEN THE ENTIRE WORLD CAN DO THAT TOO.pepharytheworm wrote:I don't recall anyone saying they want everything handed to them or to someone else. A fair and equal standing/chance as possible is what most would like. What is wrong with wanting less struggling and hardships for ourselves and others? Isn't that what we as humans have been striving for since the beginning?
