Brandish kicks ass though.

Well to each their own and all that. As for me... after suffering a couple hours with Brandish last night, I believe those who think it's a good game simply contracted Stockholm syndrome for it. Now I'll admit the sequel looks improved, and the PSP remake looks downright sexy.

This could be a Brandish series thread now, I'm okay with that.

Parts 1 & 2 are pretty similar. If you don't like the first one you'll probably hate the second one as well. There is also a Brandish 3 and 4, but good luck finding them.

I'll admit it's hard to get into those games. They controls are..... experimental. To say the least.

Back to the topic at hand... I hate to even bring up this game, but Secret of the Stars has some decent tunes. I'm especially partial to this little ditty:

I saw that part 2 actually has a mini-map on screen while you're moving around. That alone is a huge improvement over the first game really.

Controls took a minute, but I got it sorted pretty quick. I was not a fan though of the rotating viewpoint where the world spun around and disoriented the player constantly. There were some good ideas in Brandish but fundamentally it was flawed on some inexcusable levels for my tastes.

Cybernoid on the C64.

Terrible, frustrating mess of a game but a great tune.

Arguably you could also say that The Last Ninja would also make this grade. One of the iconic soundtracks of gaming history but not at all fun to play by today's standards as anything other than a nostalgia rush.
