There needs to be a general clarification on "NSFW" warnings. There's two kinds of NSFW, in my mind:

1. Visual NSFW: nudity, things that seem like nudity, anything you'd worry about being fired if someone saw it when looking over your shoulder.

2. Aural NSFW: bad swearing, racial slurs, etc, things that you'd want headphones on for (though most offices you need headphones on anyway) and probably would want to be careful on who you share it with.

Wow, that review. Just going by the minor story spoilers and ignoring any of his interpretations of the events and characterizations this sounds like an utter pile.

Yeah maybe not one of the greatest, but you have to admit that at least in the older stuff (I haven't seen newer stuff) April was at least generally portrayed as having a brain and being capable even if she wasn't a fighter. Yes she had to be rescued sometimes, but she wasn't always just a damsel in distress. It sure sounds like she was dumbed down for me in the movie, reinterpretation or not. Sure things won't be exactly the same, but it sounds like 1 step forward, 2 steps back in general.

Oh, and for the NSFW thing, I meant the video at the end of page 2, not page 1, in case that's where there was confusion on why I put NSFW. The Croc, well, fuck the Croc, who cares.

And compared to Irma, April was a complete pushover. Irma grew 50 feet and took revenge on an entire city. April was busy complaining about putting on weight, while Irma took advantage of it.

The article just comes off as super fanboy bs. April does show courage in the new movie, and she's has never, ever, been the "greatest female role model characters". That statement is so dumb I can't even wrap my brain around it.

The "author" of this article can't handle change and is delusional. April is known for passing out. Known for being afraid of almost everything. Just a seriously dumb thing to say in a review.

I couldn't even start a list of hundreds of better role models available in a fictional universe, but Hit Girl comes to mind, as does Wonder Woman. Nebula, Gamora, Silver Sable...I could go on and on.

Saw Guardians of the Galaxy today. I liked it overall. Gamora and Drax were a lot more fleshed out than I expected. There was a bit of a Firefly vibe at parts and I can get behind that. Space Cowboys are always fun. I also liked some of the nods to Kirby era Celestials/Eternals and some of the cameos were pretty outrageous. I'm sure kids will eat it up and that's good because despite the wackiness and high concept there are some good simple life lessons at its core.

I didn't think it was amazing though. Like these other superhero movies the character development ends in act two and the final act is just one huge CGI effects battle against the bad guy. I agree with BMF, there's some stuff that is skipped past that would have raised the stakes in a more meaningful way. Why is Ronan so gung ho with his evil scheme beyond being a big blue douche with a hammer? And I don't want to sound like Marvel's accountant but is it really necessary to have Glenn Close, John C. Reilly and Benecio Del Toro in such minor roles? It'd be like if Mon Mothma had been played by Ingrid Bergman.

I don't want to be too negative though, the movie is still a lot of fun and hits some nice emotional beats. It's also pretty amusing (even if I was the only one who laughed at the John Stamos gag in my screening) though not as much as the Avengers IMO.

I think having those characters is because they are going to play roles in future films and it is all part of that set up.

What did everyone think of the end of credits scene? Will we see George Lucas making a HD re-release of Howard the Duck with a CG Howard whose eyes blink!?
