On the question of University or Trade school, it really depends on what you want to do. The majority of people I know are going to Trade school, simply because they wanted to be Diesel mechanics or be an electrician or plumber. And all of those can make good money, especially the diesel mechanics. University really comes down to get the big money jobs that take more education. I really didn't want to go to college, but I was essentially forced. Honestly, it'll probably be for the better in the long run, but if it was up to me I would have went straight to the work force. I would've have gone to the oil fields and dropped into a diesel mechanic spot, where they train you as you work. Afterwards, I would have had experience and known the mechanics, so I really would've been wide open on job options, at least here with how popular diesel is right now.

Re: Private University or Trade school?
This thread is bollocks. Here are some key takeaways I've provided while I killed my brain cells sifting through this nonsense.
1. If you are drinking, do not have sex while alcohol is in your system.
a. You cannot give consent under the influence of alcohol.
b. Provided you were having sex with someone of the opposite gender/sex, in the chance that you do get the woman pregnant from this drunken encounter, drinking alcohol during this time of the pregnancy has horrible effects on neural tube development, with the possible consequences of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome or other birth defects.
2.The American Dream (according to what I assume in this thread is an audience of predominantly white men) is still alive and well with the notion that you can pull yourself up by your bootstraps and achieve greatness (if you're a white man).
a. Living on the minimum wage? Even better, you can thrive on it.
b. Education (K-12 & Post-secondary) is totally equitable AND accessible and financial aid is given out like candy at a 4th of July parade.
c. Having children is my sure bet to acquiring material possessions that have previously only existed in my dreams.
Next we'll hear that the SAT and ACT are not biased at all to people of less-privileged social identities and that testing centers are available in all neighborhoods. We might hear a short exposé about how the glass ceiling doesn't exist and was created to take away jobs from men. Hell, we're one step away from calling out minorities for being lazy good for nothings!
This thread reeks of a single story and you all can do better. Challenge your assumptions and biases, please. The few counter-narratives we've been provided by Frag, Jp1, and Dsh seem to be the only wisdom-laden posts.

The thing few people are willing to admit is that some group will always screw over some other group. Maybe in the future it'll be the space born complaining about the immigrants from Earth crowding the space lanes.Jmustang1968 wrote:Good ole Racketboy liberal bias providing the snark and shame attempts as usual.

Re: Private University or Trade school?
If I am being a "liberal" then so be it. I'd rather be that then some snap judgment elitist who benefits from the society of capitalism that we live in but doesn't take the time to learn and understand how it works.
By the way, a person can live in the woods and eat bugs. However, because someone can do something does not make it wise. Busting your hump just to make ends meet and having to be afraid if one little thing goes wrong that the bottom will drop out of your life is no way to live. Even still, I challenge that "it can be done" in vast areas of the country where things like public transit aren't an option and employers purposely limit hours to 39 in a week to avoid offering health coverage. I would love for someone who came from an underprivileged background to chime in on their thoughts about how the minimum wage workforce is being looked upon.
You want to chastise welfare, at the same time you want to chastise the minimum wage workforce, well then those who earn more than you obviously must have the right to point their fingers and tell you that you are "less than" as well. I don't care how comfortable you are with your position, there will always be someone else who can be sitting and looking at you (judging you) the same damned way.
The point is that this thread stopped being a discussion about what type of school someone should attend a long time ago. Now, it has simply become a place to come and stroke your own ego based on your illusions of grandeur for having done better than all those other losers.
People who build themselves up by looking down on others are the epitome of the dying off of humanity. It is no wonder the country is in the state it is, just look at the attitude in large towards the people who's backs it is built on.
Every single thing you posses, every service you receive, every extra dime you make is because someone else is out there doing hard work for less than they deserve. All the while continuously being judged because you have to pay a little bit of taxes to support the system that affords you the lifestyle you live. That is hypocritical, plain and simple.

What? I have no reserved judgment nor do I build myself up to look down upon and call them losers and blah blah blah. Way to really jump to conclusions and go off the deep end.

That post wasn't intended for you. Except for the portion where I consented to being a "liberal". Sorry if it came across that way. It was a general response to many of the stupid things posted in this thread.Jmustang1968 wrote:What? The wording in the beginning of my post does seem to indicate it as a direct response to you, so I take responsibility for that. Please do accept my apologies. Your posts have been relatively balanced, though not entirely in line with my beliefs. I wouldn't have been that harsh in response.
I do however find the bit about "liberal bias, and shaming" a bit unwarranted based on the many (overwhelming majority actually) posts that aren't the least bit liberal.

This sounds like something a non-elite loser would say.jp1 wrote:Now, it has simply become a place to come and stroke your own ego based on your illusions of grandeur for having done better than all those other losers.

Sorry, I have a blue collar background...so I am too stupid to understand that comment.MrPopo wrote:This sounds like something a non-elite loser would say.jp1 wrote:Now, it has simply become a place to come and stroke your own ego based on your illusions of grandeur for having done better than all those other losers.
Can you please talk down on my level kind sir?
