Sega Genesis video problem. Audio plays fine. No color.
Sega Genesis video problem. Audio plays fine. No color.
My Genesis model 1 has no color on the video when I fire it up. I'm using AV and RF on multiple TVs, LCD and CRT. I'm also using multiple RF cables. They all work and show video and play audio, but the video constantly scrolls horizontally and vertically and is black and white. I can post a video or picture(s) if needed.

Neither channel can sync properly?

Check to see that the channel select switch isn't stuck.
Model 1 segas have them built in to the console. The RF plug doesn't have anything. Not unlike the model 2. In which you can.
If you're using multiple cables and they all dont work, then there is something wrong with the system.
Does anyone else have a Sega you can borrow? Compare them, to see if the cables are broken.

Well in the case of the channel switch being stuck, it does the same thing with an AV cable. I'm afraid it's gonna be a graphics problem and the system is the High Definition version so I'd hate to see it break. I'm a collector so if nothing else it'll be a display piece if nothing else. I would just really love to be able to get it running smooth again since its the HD version and has always been a good one to me.
So if anyone has any more ideas, I'm open to listen.

Posting a picture directly here will definitely help. Some may not want to slug thru a video or a picture sharing site. Maybe a PAL to NTSC issue?neo4277 wrote:... the video constantly scrolls horizontally and vertically and is black and white. I can post a video or picture(s) if needed.

Tried posting pictures on here directly. Wouldn't let me because the pictures were too big.
I've got Sonic the Hedgehog in there and its doing its thing. I've only shown through the AV cable because it does the same through RF cable

where did you get this genesis?
Did you buy it new or did you pick it up somewhere?
Maybe its not NTSC? take a picture of your genesis and post it too to your imgur.
Flip it over and see what it says on the label?
I've not seen some games that roll on genesis. but I do have some European Atari 2600 games that roll on the screen. They roll vertical, it looks like yours roll horizontal.

Bought it new when I was younger. Yes it should be NTSC.
Will update the imgur with pictures.

Just updated the imgur album. It scrolls horizontally as well as vertically. It rolls faster horizontally than vertically but it does nonetheless

Well I'll be dammend.
It looks like it us a US model.
Have you ever opened it before? Has it been dropped or something heavy placed upon it? Does it sound like there's loose parts inside of it?
Not that I'm calling you irresponsible.
Its possible that there's some kind of interference caused by the Genesis or to it.
Thats whats causing the jumpy screen.
I once took apart a Saturn and I forgot to put some stuff back into it. Some metal and plastic pieces. The picture never looked the same since.
The same goes when you put together a sega genesis to a sega cd. There's this metal plate that goes in it. to shield it from interference.
Some say that its not needed. But others want it just to be on the safe side.
But I'm just rambling now.
Hopefully some other, more professional experts can take a crack at it.
