I've been lurking on this thread to learn more about the pros and cons of going and not going to college. So far I've learned that wearing a rubber prevents kids and that some people on this forum do not like welfare.

Didn't say I don't like welfare. My nephew and nieces benefit from it. But, people abuse it. They spend food stamps on energy drinks and junk food. The very things the government is telling us to cut out to stay healthier, they are buying with government funds. People DO claim as many dependents as possible to get more back on taxes.

Hell, a guy I worked with claimed his dog, with a fake SSN, and got back $3,000 on it. He hasn't been caught yet.

Now don't tell someone that pays income taxes to the government, that I can't question what that money is being spent on by the welfare recipients who receive it. Letting them unchecked is just irresponsible.

go to college. regardless of the degree, getting a bachelor's in any field will greatly increase your odds of a better salary and a more stable job in the vast majority of professions.

Wow. Just, wow. I had to delete my previous rant to avoid the drama and backlash, but this thread has some of the dumbest shit I have ever seen posted on these boards. How many of you are secretly Inazuma?

With standards like this it is kind of ridiculous that Luke caught the backlash he did. I hate to admit that, but it's true.

What could we tackle next? Perhaps we could make some openly racist or anti-gay posts. That would have a lot to do with choice of school. I'm glad so many of you are so supremely secure in your own life choices that you feel uniquely qualified to judge everyone who made different choices than yourself.

Don't bother with responding to my post though, I am obviously too simple to comprehend anyway, seeing as I had children before I finished my education.

Oh, by the way...going to college doesn't make you better than anyone. The fact some of you look down on many hard working people who make your life better every day just because they are less educated than yourself is frankly "stupid". It makes me surprised you managed to make it this far in life without a nice kick in the ass from reality or a literal ass kicking. I'm sure you don't openly mock and resent all those lesser folk outside of the safety of internet anonymity though, do you?

I am a product of a child of very young parents. The first 4 years of my life my dad was attending college. Mistakes happen, you make the best of them. Unless of course, it was a planned pregnancy.

I got married while I was in college. This was a mistake on my part. I stopped going to college for a few years so I could work (as a skilled laborer) and run my household. My wife had three miscarriages during this time. I didn't get to return to college until my wife and I divorced. If things had gone differently, I may never have finished college.

Well first of all, thank you for the concern, sincerely. I want to make it clear though that I am not taking it personally at all. I am quite happy with my life and choices and I don't feel like I lost anything by having kids young. I am educated as well, perhaps not at the same level as some of the members of the board, but enough that I doubt many people would consider me stupid. I managed to get a BA and while it would have certainly been a smoother ride if events had been in a different order, I wouldn't change a thing.

The issue I take is that of people being looked down upon because of their circumstances, education, or mistakes. To judge people as a whole for this kind of thing is despicable and I can't ignore it. I tried and failed, so I really can't. You just can't know the circumstances of someone else's life unless you have been intimately involved with them or walked in the same shoes. To pretend anything else is foolish.

You know, I will never sit down to a meal from a waitress/waiter who is busting their ass to earn a living or walk by some guy standing in 100+ degree weather spinning a sign and think to myself "Well, they obviously weren't college material." Some of the most fascinating and brilliant people I know did not attend college. Some of them did. It isn't a distinguishing factor on someone's character. That is all I mean to point out.

I don't mean to take away from anyone's hard work. If you worked hard and earned a degree, you should absolutely be proud. I just don't think you should feel better than someone else simply because they walked another path.
