Re: we're building Mike a gaming PC (recycled thread)

some progress...
CPU installed:

(that part always makes me nervous, but I had made sure I was prepared)

as well as a GPU:

Wifi get:

PSU, RAM:

plugged stuff in:

...and no power. Nothing. I'm pretty certain everything's plugged in right, but I'm hoping it's something simple I'm overlooking. Unfortunately, gonna be heading out for a family get together, so I prob won't have time to troubleshoot today. :\

Is the wireless card fully plugged in? Hard to tell from that angle, but it kind of look a little wonky.

Re: we're building Mike a gaming PC (recycled thread)
yeah my next steps will be to take out the wifi card and GPU. And if that does't work, to plug the power button to the reset leads to see if maybe the power button is bad. Just kind of annoyed, cuz it's not getting any juice at all it seems. So major troubleshooting is possible. No fans spinning. Nothing. It's as if it's not plugged in. Which could be a wrong internatal connection on my part, a bad PSU, a bad mobo, etc etc. Who knows?

This is how to test the PSU all by itself. Doesn't matter the brand (short of maybe older weird Dell propretary ones) and you'll know if that is good. Then you can try with just PSU/mobo/proc. Maybe even no memory. If things are starting, add piece at a time.

Wow, now I want to know if that will work for non-Corsair power supplies (it is likely).

Good news: it was something simple I was overlooking. Basically, I had the system fan plugged in twice if that makes sense.

Bad news: the GPU does not work. But hey, I'll get this set up w/ Windows for now and I'm sure we can source a cheap GPU that would be suitable.

Hmm 47 C seems awful warm for a processor that's just in BIOS. You got a good spread of thin thermal paste in there?
