Well, I know they also have a SotM thread, and also a beat-em-up of the month thing as well.

I participate in shmups there every once in awhile, but I haven't been on there lately.

For the most part there are some pretty cool people on there, but the forum gets a bad rap becuase of the continued shenanigans of a few from what I've seen.

I guarantee if you started a Black Sabbath thread there it would get more traction than here.

I don't know that I agree with shenanigans.

I mean, the thing with that forum is that if you say something stupid - you're going to get called out. If you whine about something - you'll get called a whiner. The forum has a high degree of accountability. The forum is mostly males in their late 20's to early 40's - most have decent jobs, families, etc.

As an example:
If you post that you weren't able to ship a game because (insert excuse) the reaction on many forums may be sympathetic. It isn't on there because the community at large isn't into explanations or excuses.

Where it really differentiates is if people start to whine about getting a hard time. The expectation is to acknowledge you messed up - not continue whining. If you go through any high drama thread on that site - it will always have one prevailing trait: a member who will not concede they may be in the wrong and they just keep digging the hole they are in deeper.

Some areas have a locker room mentality but most of the worst barbs are between members who dish it out and take it.

I said a friend of mine was spared because of his blow jobs. I wouldn't say that if he wasn't a bud. An outsider could take that all sorts of ways. Is he gay? Am I homophobic? No, it's just guys f'n around being non-pc. Some do take it too far, I can't/won't defend everything there's no point.

There are areas of the site where if you goof off you'll get flamed and told to take it elsewhere. To the unfamiliar it appears unruly but there actually a lot of respect and helpful people there.

Yeah, I guess that was a poor word choice.

I do agree with the fact that most of the time the drama escalates simply because the "victim" simply doesn't own up or shut up.

I'm honestly surprised I didn't find myself banned. I do most of my forumming from work, and NG's blocked (here isn't), so I usually just check in when I get home from work and when I wake up, don't really spend a lot of time BSing unless it's my day off.

If I ever AM though... I'll just harass you to cross-post your group buys, Mike

Thanks for your update, truly appreciated. I'm in the camp of people who rarely post there, as it can get pretty volatile on some threads. And if I'm not adding any value to a forum stocked with pros, then why bother? lame, I know.

Anyway, can you give us an update on the Tonk situation with AeroFighters 3? Did anyone get their money back? Is Tonk gone forever? Did DavidG come out of it unscathed? I'd ask on the NG forum, but, you know... :)

I'm not sure where you would have left off - but...

At one point, about a year ago now (?) TonK came back and revealed that DavidG was in fact Jason Young - this was confirmed via a number of members and putting together a number of sales, via forums and ebay over a number of years.

TonK was still ridiculed and the majority of members don't want him back, though some long term members would like him back and have moved on. It's hard to say what consensus belief is, i'd say most think he knew it was fake and helped perpetuate the scam. I don't personally have enough conviction to say that entirely - there were a lot of people telling him they appeared legit, including some long term "authorities" on the neo.

The most recent talk is that this was all part of long con, longer than clearing nearly 200K on the Aerofighters carts, but in fact using that money to re-produce exactly original snaplock cases and selling them as NOS.

This is a very abridged version. TonK has not been on the site in a long time, but is not banned. DavidG still sells his 161-1 AES multicart and Jockey Grand Prix carts through the neo-store. By all counts he's a con man who happens to be incredibly talented and there are enough people who simply don't care that he is a con man and still by his products.

I think you probably lucked out, aaron.

This game, with it's price spike, is being booted, even presently, and that the seller, an arcade seller selling an MVS game that is doing $100+ lately didn't use the words "original" or "legit" in his listing, and didn't take pcb pics, leans me to think it's likely a boot.
