Dreamcast PC outbox gives lines, wavy

Post by Mega-Dan »

Hi, I am using the vga output box for my dreamcast and the output is not crisp at all. Sometimes it is perfect, othertimes its pretty terrible. What could be the cause of this. the cable should be good as up to yestarday I was connecting my computer with it.

I am using a blaze DC vga pack, and tested it on two different monitors to same effect.

Could it be that the bad looking games aren't designed for use with the VGA box? Didn't games have to be programmed to use it? :?:

Yeah, but if it isn't supported, it tells you and won't boot the game at all.

Well, obviously someting could, and probably is wrong with your Dreamcast's output circuitry.

Otherwise, if your monitor has a degaussing ability, try it. Thats the only thing I can think of that would not require disassembling a Dreamcast and tracing things with a multimeter.

Apologies for dragging up a year-old thread, but I have exactly the same problem.

I have exactly the same VGA box that you sell on this site, but as I live in Japan, I bought it somewhere else... anyway I was hoping someone could help me out anyway...

I have exactly the same waviness and vertical lines as the other poster. The effect is very strong and makes games unplayable at first. After about 20 minutes of "warming up" the effect is reduced, but still very noticeable. Are all 3rd-party boxes of this type so bad? Or are people getting perfect, crystal-clear images out of them? If I just have a bum unit, I'll get a replacement, but if they're all subpar, I suppose I'll have to pony up for a used official box.

How many different games have you tried? Are they backups or originals?

About half a dozen games, all originals, all have the identical problem. Dashboard, too.
