Very nice post. I admire your dedication in tracking down all of those variants.

Well playing and collecting don't always go hand in hand. I have played thousands of games, but I probably have over 2000 I have never touched.
I am glad I am not the only one who feels this way. Collecting video games and playing video games are two different - but complimentary! - hobbies to me.

Not every game can be the type of game you play and collect, you know, like Bebe's Kids for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System™.
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

Agreed. At some point, I really need to photograph my "terrible video games" collection, and post it to the forum (pretending, of course, that it is my entire collection).

Not to be a pain in the ass, but since you are going for a complete collection, shouldn't you also have the PC games? Mainly, I bring this up because I was curious of how you feel about the necessity for having Steam titles or other digital-only files in your collection. For example, if you're concerned about differences in packaging on the same system, do you also need to see the game in your digital shelves across digital platforms (Steam, Gamersgate, Gamespy, etc)?

For me it's easy, I don't collect PC games. This is strictly a console and portable set. I was a console kid growing up, and we were pretty poor so I didn't have a computer until I was 17 and graduated from High School. I am 35 so Computers weren't in every house while I was growing up, so playing games on them just didn't happen very often.

Now if you wanted to argue and say "This set isn't complete without PC games", I am sure you would find plenty to agree with you. I wouldn't completely disagree with you either, but it's just not something I do. Digital Titles are another thing that is just not in my collecting wheel house.I don't count them for my sets but I wouldn't hold it against anyone if they did. Tangible goods only, though for modern systems I am getting more and more digital titles and loving the space they don't take up.

Man. That was heart-wrenching. Nobody should have to deal with things like that, especially as a young kid. You more than deserved that SNES, and I'm glad to know you still have it.
