I've been trying to get a museum-related job for a while now (specifically collections, but would do p. much anything at this point) but all the open positions are at the very top and want ungodly levels of experience.

Volunteer, at any level. Museum executives are elbow rubbers that want experience in marketing, fundraising, and sales.

Being socially active is a must. From my limited experience the cliche "It's not what you know, it's who you know" applies.

I'd also recommend checking out if you could be an assistant to the curator at your local museum. That would be beneficial to your future endeavors. Even if it doesn't pay, it will give you a foot in the door.

Well, if you need help with your cover letter or resume, pm me. You probably already know this, but be sure to get letters of recommendation from every place you volunteered. When you give most HR managers a "package" instead of just a resume, it really increases your chance of landing a job.

I knew a guy who had a Delta Integrale. He loved it but it was a nightmare to maintain. The insides were essentially just a Volkswagon Golf by the end. I think my Lancia fantasies will have to remain inside Forza 4.

Yeah I also have a thing for the Integrale. My favorite time trial is to take that on Isle SS2, it's got the best track music too.

"To whom it may concern,

I worked with Amish Samurai for so and so and during his tenure his attention to detail was more than asked and his business acumen went beyond description.

He would be an asset to any company that he sees fit...blah blah blah."

I can PM you a few of mine if you'd like. And it doesn't hurt to share a LOR of what you'd like, as some people have never written one before, and it can be a bit awkward for them.

I have to disagree. Experience is gold, and you have to leap at every opportunity. Showing that you strive to want experience and education in a certain field and are willing to spend your time doing so means more than a degree these days. You need to work your tail off for free to get ahead, and when an opportunity is available you jump and ask "how high?".

Plus internships can count towards college credit, which is hitting two birds with one stone. Free networking too.

In my internship experiences, the first I was largely ignored by my supervisor and I did get 2 credit hours, but was also charged for said hours, effectively meaning I was paying to work. The other one I was basically used as a janitor/cashier, and my supervisor actively refused to teach me anything and most stuff I learned I either sought out on my own or was a "what not to do" (their collections room was a literal janitor's closet, they destroyed some priceless artifacts for "decoration", etc). And thats not just my experience- most unpaid internships are just greedy employers looking for someone to do the work nobody else wants to for free.
