Nobody hears the great music at the end of hard games

Post by J T »

I was just listening to some VGM on random, and it came to this song that I love. I couldn't place it at first, until I heard the poorly digitized voice near the end that is supposed to be saying "The End" and I suddenly realized that it was the ending theme to The Adventures of Bayou Billy, a game I only managed to complete maybe 3-4 times in my youth (back then, I had a small collection and would repeatedly play through my games, but Bayou Billy was a tough one).

I thought, it's a shame that so many people missed the ending music to this game because it was so hard. So, that's what this thread is for. If you know of a great VGM track that nobody's heard because the game was just too damn hard to ever get the chance to hear it, post a link to the song!

Here's the ending theme to The Adventures of Bayou Billy:

Here's a few more:

Section Z: Final Stage (I would always get lost in this stage until I got a pen & pencil and drew maps. One of the only games I ever did that with)

Battletoads: The Revolution (final stage) (this song still makes me tense because that last rotating level was such a pain in the ass.)

Ninja Gaiden: Ending Theme 3 and 4 (such a memorable sunrise. It makes me happy just to hear these again.) :)

Super Ghouls and Ghosts (it's so triumphant and uplifting, as it damn well better be for a game that makes you start from the beginning and beat it a second time for the true ending. Years have passed, but I'm still mad about that.)

Nice thread title.

It's not a "hard" game by many people's standards, but I remember the first time I beat Super Mario Bros., probably six months after I got it for Christmas, I was so enthralled by the ending music I sat there listening to it for 20 minutes or so.

As far as hard games go, The 7th Saga has a nice ending theme:

Cool idea for a thread. Of the harder games I have beat none of the music stood out to me at the time unfortunately. I did really enjoy the already posted music though. I never thought to just listen to video game music, but it was (is?) really an art wasn't it?

I guess I'll try to add something. I don't know if these games are considered hard though...

Shadowgate (NES): Probably not difficult, but maybe some didn't have the patience for it?

Crystalis (NES): Just cause I love the game, quite similar to all of the music in the game truthfully. I did love all the music though.

Final Fantasy (NES): I will go ahead and proclaim this a difficult game, assuming no strategy guide was involved. It took me many hours of leveling up and still quite a few tries at the end boss before success. Not to mention that damned save bug which cost me hours and hours of progress.

Metal Storm (NES): Only because I love the game and it is challenging do I post it. The end music honestly isn't that special.

Silver Surfer (NES): I never beat this game. However, I loved it even though it was super hard and I clocked SO many hours. The end would have been a reward for my poor thumbs. I would revisit the game, but I have never wanted to subject myself to it's tortures again. So, this one is a cheat.

Blaster Master - Seriously, who's managed to get through this entire beast? The difficulty skyrockets from area 6 and up.

In my youth I made it. I was really disappointed that I went through all that trouble for a frog.

You ever heard about the original Japanese story? It's apparently much crazier revolving around an alien invasion and things like that haha. I wonder what the frog intro means there though.

The Japanese version doesn't have an intro. Sunsoft added it for some completely mysterious and bizarre reason.

I wonder if the intro and renaming was a late decision done by someone who thought they could market it better because an English version of the "MetaFight" logo was found in the ROM.

Been beating Blaster Mater every year has been a tradition for over a decade.

Game is phenomenal. Music, graphics, difficulty...all terrific. The calming music is the only thing that kept me from throwing countless controllers.

The ending music to Sleeping Dogs is something awesome.

Blaster Master > Metroid.

Metroid fanboy speaking all the way, and Blaster Master did come out two years after I think so it had some advancements... but yeah. I have no problem saying that Blaster Master beats Metroid to its own game when comparing the NES original, a password/save system is all that Blaster Master really needed.

Too bad the Genesis game was awkward. A true sequel on the SNES that could measure up to Super Metroid's quality... damn, what could have been.

Heck, anything Sunsoft on the SNES would have been great. :(

My favorite story about Blaster Master comes from this interview in 2010. Despite the fact that the Japanese version had poor sales, the creator/producer was surprised at how well-received it was in the US.
