Dragon Tiger Gate

Although being a wee bit cheesy and over the top this was a pretty good film. Plenty of massive fight scenes, a good mixture of martial arts styles and weapons, and decent production values. The only part of the movie that kind of turned me off was the final battle which involved a lot of special effects which were definitely the weak point of the movie.

Born to Fight

This was an awesome Thailand action film. Amazing stunts and fights the actors and stuntmen really put their all into this movie and it shows. The plot as a whole may be somewhat basic it keeps the adrenaline pumping and sets things up for a pretty awesome struggle. The only somewhat goofy part of the film is the athletes some of their moments were a little humorous such as a soccer player sniping a guy out of a watchtower with a soccer ball  . Overall I really liked it and was down right amazed that nobody got killed during production there were a lot of close calls throughout the film and the outtakes in the end credits showed some of the stunts that went bad.

Worst close call involved a guy literally getting within a couple of inches of getting his head under the back tires of a tractor trailer  . As much as I respect the live action stunts they really need some safety regulations tossed in over there :P.

The Raid 2

Really good movie wish I had seen the original first though since I felt like I was missing out a bit with a few of the characters. The action was top notch though and while down right insane at times the moves were believable and very well choreographed. The whole gang politics side of it also reminded me of the two Outrage films I watched recently which was definitely a good thing :). Didn't check out the english dub but the subs were very good quality.

On another note the claw hammer action in this movie was probably the most gruesome I have seen  definitely did a great job of showing just how brutal a weapon it can be.

The Raid 2 does a good job of giving people who haven't seen the first movie all the info they need to follow the story, but there are two big benefits from seeing the first movie. It makes the opening scene much more significant. To newcomers, that scene doesn't have much impact. There's also an actor who plays a major role in the first movie playing a different role in The Raid 2. It's sort of a fun wink to the fans. I actually thought it was the same character at first

Disney won't do an R rated Marvel movie, but Ryan is a great fit.

Fox has the rights to Deadpool still, and that's a proof of concept they produced.

Perhaps more entertaining than the Deadpool footage itself

It's probably a crime that I never saw this movie before now, but what can I say? I was like two years old when this movie first came out. It feels dated in a lot of ways, but I enjoyed it. The look of and feel of prison New York was cool and I appreciate getting to see this due to its historical significance, not just in cinema, but video games as well. About the ending though:
Douche move taking the tape, if that really was something needed to avoided conflict between nations. I get why he did it, but it still shows Plissken's rather callous regard for the lives of others.

John Carpenter was so awesome in the late '70s and early '80s. It is too bad his later films were so awful...

Escape From LA is also fun. I'd say it's overall not quite as good, though it does turn up the bonkers in a few places. Still enjoyable if you liked NY.

That's good to hear. I was a little unsure of whether or not to see it given some of the mixed reviews it seemed to get

So with The Strain debuting three weeks ago and the recent announcement of Pacific Rim becoming something of a franchise I've had Guillermo Del Toro on the brain lately. So I decided to finally see Blade II.

It's a fun movie. There's some cool fights in this movie, and it has the sort of style and visual flair that you expect from Guillermo Del Toro. Guys like him and Robert Rodriguez just have a knack for making shit look cool and stylish. As someone who watched a lot of Walking Dead on AMC, it was cool to see Norman Reedus again. Ron Perlman was his usual awesome self(I've become a bigger fan of him since I started watching Sons of Anarchy), and it always makes me happy to see Donnie Yen in stuff like this. As a martial arts movie fan, I have a lot of love for that guy. His role reminds me of his part in Highlander: Endgame, though this is a much better movie. Unfortunately though, it doesn't fully make use of his talents. He's the sort of guy who can carry an action movie as the star, and he's just a bit player in this.

I also find the use of CGI a bit jarring at times in Blade II. It's not all seamless. However, much like a Stephen Chow movie, I forgive it due the fact that some of the stuff Guillermo Del Toro does with the CGI in this movie is pretty damn cool.

This movie is right up my alley. I'm mostly a DC comics guy, but Blade is one of those Marvel characters I've always thought was cool. I've even got a Blade comic book signed by a guy I used to talk to in a local comic book shop years ago who has done work for Marvel and continues to do so (Tom Derenick). And I like vampire stuff in general, when it's not built around pretty boy vampires of the Twilight variety.

One other thing I dug about Blade II. There are some aspects of it that I have seen pop up in Del Toro's The Strain. So that was pretty cool too. He definitely has his own unique take on vampire mythology.
