Skeletons in the closet of your favorite game developers

Post by J T »

What are some little known games by famous developers that are either racey or embarassing in some way? I decided to make this thread topic after looking through a list of Falcom games and seeing that they had this in their history:

Private Stripper (女子大生プライベート) by Falcom

Yes, the beloved developers of many of the most influential JRPGs of all time had humble beginnings of making cheesy basement dweller games where you put a puzzle together to see a girl in the bikini. (There's gotta be a joke to be made about BoneSnapDeez here, I just can't quite make it sound natural)

This also made me think of...

Softporn Adventure by Sierra Online (previously On-Line Systems)
Image
Roberta Williams, famed creator of the King's Quest series, is on the far right of the hot tub there. This was text-based game that became the inspiration for Leisure Suit Larry, which was basically a graphical version of Softporn Adventure.

So what other shameful and saucy secrets exist in the past of famous game developers?

Video Hustler by Konami

One of Konami's early titles was so boring that the marketing people had a hard time even coming up with a way to sell it, so they settled on the tag line "Calm excitement will seize you."

I think some of the people who made Daikatana still have jobs in the industry.

Early Konami also brought us the incredibly original "Space King" and "Space King 2."

Taito must have stolen the whole concept from them I'm sure...

I will note that Radical Entertainment, the company that created Prototype and Prototype 2 PS3 and Xbox 360, also created Bebe's Kids for the Super Nintendo.

Likewise, City Interactive, the company developing Lords of the Fallen for the PS4 and Xbox One, developed the smash hit Chicken Riot for the Nintendo Wii.

Here's the ad we all know and love, but I noticed something I had never noticed before: look at the phrase that they actually bothered to get Trade Marked.

I think they might have sold the trade mark to a porn company to recoup costs.
