Well, Lucy was interesting. The basic premise behind the movie doesn't work, but at the same time it doesn't really hurt my suspension of disbelief; the results are the sort of thing you want to believe in. It seems like an American take on many of the themes in Akira, which I think is a good route to take (rather just doing a live action version of it).

I liked the trailer Stark. Though it seems like Max is a prisoner the entire movie. That seems strange.

Maybe it is an origin story and explains why he is so mad?

I watched Kubrick's Lolita last night for the first time in probably 15 years or more and saw it with entirely new eyes...I forgot how great the performances were (Sellers is in top form, as always) and the dark humor is really much more cutting than I recalled it being. One thing I always enjoy about revisiting Kubrick is that his best movies have appeal at so many different levels, and one almost walks away with a renewed appreciation for his craftsmanship when seeing them again.

Yeah that did seem weird. Maybe it is less of the movie than it appears from that trailer? Tom Hardy is so awesome, can't wait for it.

@dsh, I hated Kubrick when I was a teenager, but have come to appreciate him more later in life. I've yet to see Lolita, but if I had known Peter Sellers was in it, I probably would've remedied that already by now.

I've always loved Kubrick but for different reasons. I mentioned on here when I last watched A Clockwork Orange (almost five years ago) that:
It is funny how my reaction to this film has changed over the years. When I first saw it in high school I focused on the new-to-me excessive violence and sex (in much the same way that Tarantino films once appealed to me). It was titillating. In college I got caught up in the existential/philosophical dimensions of the film and came to both admire the protagonists’ spirit and to disdain the antagonistic institutions that sought to curb it. In my early 20s I really seized on the aesthetic dimensions of the film and admired it for those reasons above all. Now, a few months from 30, I was for the first time genuinely horrified by almost everything in the film (the rape, in particular, struck a nerve with this now married man) and appreciative of Kubrick’s ability to craft such soul-stirring scenes. The fact that this film feels so fresh every time I sit down to view it makes it hands-down one of my all time favorites.
As for Sellers in Lolita, in truth it is a testament to the superb performances by James Mason, Sue Lyon, and Shelley Winters that he doesn't completely steal the show. The nuance in each of their performances is really quite something (the in-home dancing scene between Mason and Winters is a clinic in itself), and Sellers' characteristically over-the-top role is ultimately a really compelling contrast to those in the rest of the film.

Oh neat, I didn't see your write-up of Clockwork Orange. It was my first exposure to Kubrick and it turned my stomach (as it is supposed to) and it really colored my viewing of Eyes Wide Shut and Full Metal Jacket.
