That vertical chessboard is awesome! Dunno how I feel about Luigi being the queen LOL, but you gotta work with what you have access to! Good job if you made that yourself. Donsilvestre!
I HATE that Luigi is the queen, but (you can't tell in the picture) the pieces are clearly labeled on their base, and Luigi's piece says, clear as day, QUEEN. So be careful if you order the Super Mario Chess set off Amazon :-)

I didn't make it myself, I had a coworker build it for me based on the sets on http://www.straightupchess.com/Default.asp Not quite as nice as those sets, but it turned out great for 1/3 of the cost.

It was on purpose actually. Maybe should have went for AppleQueso's approach instead, but it was funnier to write it that way.

In the end you all got my idea, which is not to spend several thousands on hundreds of plastic cartridges and boxes, but to spend it on the really neat, rad, bad stuff instead, including decorative pieces, then use flash carts if needed.

Anyway, got lots of great ideas now. Thanks to everyone and I hope the thread goes on.

Mine would have to be an award given to a Nintendo employee that worked on 1080 Avalanche. It is signed by Shigeru Miyamoto. Here is the link I have on Nintendo Age.
