It requires a lot of platforming skills which is probably why I find it a pretty manageable compared to a lot of games in the genre. It's my favorite Turrican game personally which I'm sure will earn me scorn from fans of the originals. I just really love the graphical style and refinements they made to the gameplay. I really dig the bad-ass box art as well.
So far I can't seem to get past the stage that takes place in what seems to be a futuristic sewer with lots of water at the bottom of the screen.

But honestly, I don't mind just playing through the first part of the game up to that point over and over again - it's a lot of fun and the music is awesome.

Picked up a loose Quackshot, Shining in the Darkness with case but no manual, and a fantastic VA4 Genesis 2 unit in clean, excellent shape, all for $30 at the local CCAG (Classic Console and Arcade Games) show.

LOVING the audio on the VA4 right now. Score! Time to get rid of my older Gen 2 unit. This one is the bomb.

That revision was the only Genesis I had for a while and years later when I saw people complaining about the Genesis 2 audio I just couldn't understand what they were talking about. I still have it and keep my 32X in it full-time though the reset button has been broken since it was practically brand new.

The HDG Model 1's still kind of blow it away though. Use the headphone jack to hook one of those up to some nice speakers and it's fan-freaking-tastic.

Quackshot is a really fun platformer. In a way it almost feels like a spiritual successor to Capcom's Ducktales with all of the world traveling and its loose ties to the "Duckverse" of the Donald comics. It's a nostalgic favorite of mine.

What I have read about the sound differences with the original model 1 HD and the model 1 VA4 suggests that the major distinction is a low-pass filter, and that the VA4, while not being as impressive in the bass department, actually has slightly cleaner highs. I'm OK with it, frankly. This little GEN2 takes up less space and fits better into my arrangement, and saved my $10 - $20 over the HD models at the CCAG show. And I might even have come away with cleaner video.

I'm certainly happy with it. It is a major step up from the old one.

^You did come out with better video, and the best audio of all the Model 2s. That revision has the Sony CXA1645, which is the best video encoder chip used in any Genesis (save for the VA3 Model 2, which somehow screws up this chip's output). The Model 1 uses the Sony CXA1145, which is prone to rainbow banding in all revisions until VA6 and up.

I have an HDG Model 1 somewhere between VA3 and VA5, and the rainbow banding annoys the hell out of me. I really need to send mine off for an S-Video mod.

My VA4 Genesis is great as well. Looks just as good as my DC and Saturn's S Video on my HDTV CRT. The sound is better on 3D Echo than SRS Surround.

I remember having an unknown Gen2 revision back in the day. RF. And on a shitty TV. Then that genesis finally broke. So terrible.

Rainbow banding, you say? Do you have the non-TMSS Genesis?

Aye. I'm too lazy to open it, but from the audio I can tell it's not a VA2, and no TMSS means it's VA3, VA4, or VA5. The banding over composite is basically a design flaw that all Model 1s pre-VA6 have that may show slight improvement with a full recap; however, the only way to truly avoid it is to alter the video output via S-Video, use RGB, or slap a 32x on it. S-Vid seems the cheapest and has the least amount of external crap required.

I love my genesis. But i had to do something last week that I regretted till this day and hate myself but it was for the benifit of my wife and kids.
Pretty much we needed money to go to hampton beach for a few days and I hadd so sell off my rare gems so my kids can have a good time
Castlevania, contra, mega turrican, rock n roll racing, punisher, turtles hyperstone heist, rolling thunder 2, and splatterhouse.
I'm so pissed because now I have to wait for a while to even try to get any of those games back. The good news is that i did it for my family. They had a great time and seeing them watching the fireworks and just enjoying life was worth it. Can't wait to see how much the prices are going to be in 6 months when I try to gethem back. Maybe ill just sell my wii stuff to get some of those games back for trade credit

Dude just get an Everdrive already so you can stop playing this buying/selling game. You're going to end up losing more and more money in the long run.
