You don't have to defer to my opinion regarding Jersey Boys; go ahead and give us your thoughts, especially if they differ from mine.
Well, I really didn't have anything to add. I, too, liked that it was more uplifting than some of the more sensationalized music biopics (Some of those things just get a little too damn depressing in between musical numbers.)

My only real qualm was that it felt quite a bit slow in the beginning. The first 20 minutes of Begin Again also suffered from this, but I felt the first 20 minutes of Jersey Boys dragged out a little too long. It picked up the pace after that, but for a while I just remember sitting there thinking, "Where's the singing? Get on with the singing."

I was quite happy with how Hercules came out now, after seeing it. It wasn't done in a hokey way, had a good mix of a action and everything.

Is there a lot of mythology involved?

Isn't this like... Misery meets Dr. Moreau with some Human Centipede?

I enjoyed Red State a lot and found that Kevin Smith is very entertaining as a writer regardless of the genre. It surprised me that the movie was as good as it was, mostly because of the departure.

After listening to the podcast that brought about his desire to make the film, I am again actually excited to see the film. It has that campy Kevin Smith feel, mixed with that harsh and disturbing world that seems so deranged and askew from reality. For horror films, that is what I enjoy the most, so I think it will be good, not amazing, but entertaining like all his films tend to be.

I wish I knew. No clue.

But Smith sure is setting him up for fat jokes.

To be honest I haven't spoke to the guy in probably six or seven years, but this is so intriguing and bizarre that I might have to give him a jongle. "Jongle" is a typo, but I like the way it sounds.

But seriously, the film is, "Based on a true story," about a guy who did take a personal ad for free housing at a really nice place on one condition. Once a week for a few hours, you had to dress up in a walrus costume and pretend to be a walrus. The guy who put the ad out there was a fisherman from Canada who lived with this Walrus and they were the best of friends. When the walrus died, he missed him and tried to live vicariously through this fantasy. It wasn't a dangerous situation, but definitely stranger than fiction.

If people are confused about the film, I highly recommend watching Red State to get a good feel for the atmosphere and style of Tusk, as they appear to be very similar.

Agreed on the similar "vibe" and atmosphere, but I found RED STATE to be, well, pretty bad and amateurish. Not as bad as A COUPLE OF DICKS, or whatever it ended up being titled as, but it wasn't good.

And that's hard for me to type as Smith has helped so many friends of mine who write land jobs in la la land. Hopefully TUSK will be a turning point in the right direction. He's always his best when he isn't comfortable, if that makes any sense. If you've watched any of his Q&A's, he says "Well, so I said ahhh, fuck it". He does that too much. But! When he has a sense of urgency, he nails (ho ho) it.

Hope that TUSK isn't his swan song.

Although I totally enjoyed Red State, what about it did you find to be bad? Although I am not going to argue the legitimacy of the film or anything, I am curious to know how you feel about it. You can throw it in spoilers if you want to spare people. In the end though, nothing could be as bad as, Cop Out A.K.A. A Couple of Dicks.
