I played for about an hour maybe and after the initial intro stuff a message pops up saying to log in at the date/time you mentioned and you'd get a special gift if you buy the game. They're scale testing, which to my layman brain I interpret as a stress test for their servers?Stark wrote:I read something about getting a special emblem at launch if you sign in at 2:00p PST on Saturday.

I've had a good time with the beta ,just wish I could get to the moon. Pretty much covered everything in Old Russia. (Including some ?? lvls that insta killed my wife and I) Nooooow the long wait till Sept. I also heard they are stressing the servers on Sat I've been impressed we are both on the XB1 version no crashes or disconnects not even lag!
Re: Bungie's Destiny
I PM'd Dave about this last night and wanted to get your thoughts. I've played the beta pretty extensively the last few nights. I've reached the level cap and have found the gameplay to be pretty great. Like a fusion of Borderlands and Halo, which has really kept me engaged. It's challenging enough but not too hard. I also love the open world aspects of it and running into people all over the map. The random encounters also offer a great mix too.
Here's my question though, for those of you that have been playing on next-generation consoles, would it be reason enough to invest in one of the consoles? Halo was the killer app that got me invested in Xbox. I don't see much else offered on the Xbox One yet that really appeals to me, as I think Titanfall will be cast in the shadows once this hits. PS4 has a lot of neat stuff coming down the pipelines too, but a lot of my friends have Xbox One and for me gaming is an online, social experience.
TL;DR: buy a next-gen console because this is a killer app? Or will playing it on PS3/Xbox 360 be sufficient?

I'm impress by the game. I wasn't expecting much - Halo with a new set of paint - but I'm convinced. I may head over to see of I can still preorder it today or tomorrow.

Re: Bungie's Destiny
From what I gather, Bungie's plan for Destiny is for it to last, MMO like, for at least 5 years and they will upgrade it with paid expansions. So, you'd have to figure that there would come a point where those upgrades would not find their way to 360/PS3 and the game would essentially be dead.Blu wrote:

Myself, I only just realised the Beta was up and free on the 360. Played it to level 5. Very much enjoyed it. Obviously I spent 25% of my time dancing on the very edge of those landing struts that stick out of the city. You have to really. The combat is excellent and everything is very fluid. It's cool how you can jump into a group of enemies, zap them with your super attack then quickly call for the bike and speed off all in one motion.
Waiting now for some chums to download it so we can test that aspect. Hopefully it'll be enough of a genre mash-up to attract some of my friends who don't usually go in for shooters.
Re: Bungie's Destiny
Not quite. If you're already thinking of getting a PS4 or XB1 then this is just all the more reason but I wouldn't buy this just for Destiny. Aside from aesthetics there isn't much different from last-gen and current-gen consoles. Also, the game transfers data from your PS3 to PS4. So if at any point down the line you pick up a current-gen console you don't have to worry about starting over. I'm not sure about the XB1 but I assume it does also.Blu wrote:TL;DR: buy a next-gen console because this is a killer app? Or will playing it on PS3/Xbox 360 be sufficient?

Re: Bungie's Destiny
I downloaded the Beta last night and ran through the beginning portion and I feel like I need to lay something out here.
I expected Destiny to be somewhat terrible. My history with Bungie games would best be described as, "poor". I hate, and I mean hate Halo. I can't stand those games, and it's not because people like them, it's because I think they're awful.
When people described their playtime with Destiny as "Halo mixed with Borderlands" ... I was expecting a train wreck (Because that sounds absolutely terrible to me).
