Man, I feel slightly jealous of the prices you guys pay for parts.
I just bought an i5 plus mobo and 8 GB RAM for the equivalent to 607 dollars. Same combo would run me 432 on Newegg.
I'm yet to buy a GPU, but it's probably gonna be a GeForce 760.

Re: PC build thread
Anyone have experience with mobile GPUs? I'm looking at the 880M vs the 870M.

You need to get a hookup in the US that can buy the stuff for you and ship it to Brazil.jfrost wrote:Man, I feel slightly jealous of the prices you guys pay for parts.

So, first off, the 880m is a beast for what it is. I have friends who have sold their desktops in place of laptops with that card (the MSi Dominators seem popular among them). We're talking current games on high settings with an average of 60fps @ 1080p in most of them. About 660Ti levels of performance as I understand it.Stark wrote:Anyone have experience with mobile GPUs? I'm looking at the 880M vs the 870M.
The 870m is less powerful than that but it's still a fast card. It's about 10% slower but because of the lower bandwidth (192Bit vs 256Bit), it performs a bit lower than that even. Probably in the range of 15%ish.
That said, both are great for gaming and I'd wager you'd be happy with either of them, especially comparing to something like a PS4 or Xbox One. Obviously you have to pay a lot in cash, portability, heat, and battery life but I feel like I can recommend either purely from a performance standpoint.
Older. Not wiser.

I've thought about it, but too messy. If my stuff gets stuck in customs, I pay 60% of the product's price in taxes.Frag Mortuus wrote:You need to get a hookup in the US that can buy the stuff for you and ship it to Brazil.jfrost wrote:Man, I feel slightly jealous of the prices you guys pay for parts.

Sweet. Thanks for the thoughts. I'm leaning towards the 870M in this ASUS gaming rig, cause it's like $550 cheaper.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:So, first off, the 880m is a beast for what it is. That is crazy. I've heard that Brazil has extremely high taxes, which is why the PS4 costs thousands of dollars.jfrost wrote:I've thought about it, but too messy. Re: PC build thread
Stark, have you ever had a gaming quality laptop before? The reason I ask is that I never have, but my wife currently has one and I had a friend in the past that had a Dell XPS gaming laptop and both ended up breaking down over time because they ran so hot, just from the sheer nature of laptops not having enough cooling ability. Both lasted about 3 years before reaching a point where they would overhead and shut down while playing games. So, one thing I would recommend is looking at those laptops that have extra ventilation for cooling like the newer ones from Asus that have huge air ducts on the back. Granted this will make them considerable bigger, but it will probably help you out in the long run. Also get as good of a cooling mat as possible, they help quite a bit. My wife has one from Cooler Master that has a 200mm fan, but is kind of flimsy. I think Cooler Master makes a metal one with a 230mm fan but it's like $100. However, I would highly recommend it.Stark wrote:Sweet. Thanks for the thoughts. No not yet, thanks for the thoughts. This is what I'm currently looking at: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... -_-ProductFrag Mortuus wrote: Stark, have you ever had a gaming quality laptop before?
