Hello
I heard from a friend that the gamecube never had a chip to create backup cd's. He said that he and some friends searched a lot with no success(NOT IN THE USA) , he said the reason was that the gamecube cd's had some kind of programming to them that they spin backwards or it is read backwards.
I am not sure of this as I know the rule "if it is electronic, they will crack it" , I thought he might just not be so well enlightened about the subject matter. Is this true though?
if backup of gamecube games actually DO exist , has any one ever tried to download ISO then burn it to full CD-R(not the mini ones) and try to play it on the gamecube, using modded gamecube?
does it work?

Re: The truth of gamecube backups
The GameCube uses mini DVD-R (not mini CD-R).
Games can be dumped from originals using tools like the GeckOS homebrew tools.
With an appropriate modchip installed (say like the Qoob) you can burn these backups to DVD-R and play them find. I have a number of friends with modded GCs, and I'll be modding my own shortly too.

Any links for a decent place to get chips from in Australia? I live in Queensand too, in Gladstone just 600km north of you Mr The King.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

You can burn GC backups to full size DVDs. You just have to remove the case to play them.

A few years ago I saw some places selling replacements cases for the Gamecube that were larger to allow you to do this. It's a cheaper route because it is hard to find mini-DVD-Rs.
To answer you question directly: Yes it works although installation of the mod-chip is not the easiest thing you'll ever do.

I have a viper installed in my GC with a replacement case. The install is a piece of cake if you have the initial rev-a motherboard. It was 8 wires I think. The soldering points are straight forward apart from one that is underneath the heat sink. It just required a bit of a tug to come off but it was pretty straightforward.

I bought verbatim mini-dvd-rs are my local microcenter for about a buck each. Kinda pricey, but much cheaper than having to hunt down games like Pikmin 2 or the resident evil ports for $40 each.
