Ok, so I just ran through roughly 150 rounds of Bloody Roar 4, followed by a quick run through arcade mode. The game's pretty accessible. I've had very little experience with the Bloody Roar series, yet I was able to pick this one up pretty quick. My biggest gripe would have to be the obvious slowdown, but beyond that, the game's pretty fun.
So, most of my friends that are into the Bloody Roar series say that the Gamecube port of Bloody Roar 3 was the best. Exactly what is it that puts it head and shoulders above the rest in the series? What other titles in the series are worth picking up, if any?

Re: Bloody Roar series
I'm not hugely experienced with the series. I've got 1 and 2 on Playstation 1, and Primal Fury (basically 3 with extra characters) on GameCube. The latter I picked up from a cleanout sale in a pack of 6 games ($30 for the lot).
1 was fun as a mash-fest with drunken mates. Outside of that I honestly don't think the series has any serious depth to it. I play a bit of casually-competitive Street Fighter (mostly ST and 3S), so I'm quite biased towards 2D fighters. Generally speaking the Tekken series is the only 3D fighter I find worth playing, and everything else seems to fall into button-mash-fury.
The graphics on the GC version were nice enough. Better certainly than the PS2. I hate the GC pad for playing anything, and fighters are particularly bad. But as far as being "the best of the series", I'm not entirely sure. I find them all much of a muchness to be honest. The move sets and specials are all very similar.
There's a little bit of strategy to it about when you should turn beast, but not enough to add any serious depth to the game. Certainly not games I'd go out of my way to collect. I've definitely played worse, but that doesn't mean I'll pay good money for average.

Really? You think Virtua Fighter is more of a button-mash-fest than Tekken? I don't find Tekken to be a button masher, but then neither do I find VF to be, and VF is the far more natural and intuitive of the two, IMO.
Re: Bloody Roar series
I know I'm pulling a necro here but I just played Bloody Roar Extreme (updated version of 3) and found it to be awesome. I loved the Bloody Roar games on PS1 but I've never played any of them past that until earlier today. Any other fans of the series around? I heard that there was actually a Bloody Roar 5 in the works at one point but with Hudson now defunct I'm guessing that's history.

I briefly played the first two games, but it has been years.

Yeah I remember playing one of them on PS2 or PS1 back in the day. It reminded me a lot of an arcade game and thought it was pretty fun. This actually has me interested in getting my hands on it again.
Re: Bloody Roar series
I recall playing the 2nd one on ps1 a while back and found it to be a good fighting game for ps1. From what I heard, Bloody Roar 2 isnthe best and bloody Roar 4 tue worst.

Re: Bloody Roar series
I'm a Bloody Roar fan, I was able to collect most of the titles and I consider the first one for PS1 the best one in the series.
Re: Bloody Roar series
I concur. The first one was by far my favorite, but I also enjoyed the second one. I didn't really care for the Gamecube one and didn't play any after that.Captainvans wrote:I'm a Bloody Roar fan, I was able to collect most of the titles and I consider the first one for PS1 the best one in the series.

The first one is my favorite too but this Xbox one I'm playing is pretty good. I definitely suggest it to fans of the series. It looks great with component cables too.
