I don't want to play the super easy GBA, but neither the NES fricking hard one :)

From what I understand, the PS1 version lets you choose between the easy mode, which is the standard setting for Dawn of Souls, and the NES difficulty. However the NES mode has the adjustments Square made for the Wonderswan version which makes things more streamlined, though not necessarily easier.

So I think the PS1 version is what you are after.

(It should be noted though that Dawn of Souls has added content over Origins and the PSP Anniversary Edition has even more stuff than that).

If you have the PSP version, I highly recommend that, since it's the best of both worlds, and the definitive version of the game, by far.

Oh man.

I opened my mouth in the Xbox 360 thread about how I was worried about this thing kicking the bucket. While playing Gears of War I'm getting lots of white block artifacting. :x

It makes me paranoid because I can't recreate it in any other game. I even put Forza Horizon's Photo mode up for a half hour (which causes the system fans to kick into high gear) right after and couldn't get anything.

I really hope it's just an issue with the game. I'm saving up for an Xbox One, not another 360. I'd really rather not spend money but if this thing does bite the dust I'll just get another one I guess. They really are cheap these days.

As a near obsessive fan of the original Final Fantasy:
I just can't bring myself to obtain or play the PSP version. It just doesn't seem right in Hi-def (I have no such issues with FFII or FFIV remakes). I do like how you can basically play all major ports of FF1 on PSP though (through actual releases and emulation).

Own:
FF (NES)
FF (Wonderswan)
FF Origins (PS1)
FF I+II Dawn of Souls

My favorite version after the original NES one (8-bit pixel monster art at its finest) is probably the PS1 version, as it keeps the original magic system, is still classic looking, and has good music.
I know the game so well, I sometimes play through the Jpn version on my Swancrystal with little trouble.
...just another lost soul...

When mine started having issues (when I used to have the original model) it would do weird stuff like that very very infrequently for a couple of months, then one day it'd go from 0 to 60 and die within a half hour period.

The newer model really is better, so much less worry and headache.

Glad to see someone else has the WonderSwan Color version.

Do try it on PSP someday. Lots of fun. Any FF remake will be fine with me as long as it's not in the style of Final Fantasy XIII or something.

I still need to play the Genesis version of "Final Fantasy."

Wandered into one outpost of the local gaming store (multiple locations, one local chain) today, hunting for something to pad out my Secret Santa gift a little, and was shocked to see a sign by their NES games:

"Sports & Common Games $5"

SERIOUSLY? Sports games are commanding $5 now?!? I used to buy commons for $1 or less! Ugh, this hobby is getting expensive.
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!
Cheat sheet of my collection, always looking to increase it. 405/677 licensed games, 46/"95" unlicensed
Chronically out of date BST thread

Yeah I thought sports were worthless(for the most part) since they don't sell well and usually most people don't want them....commons I can see maybe 3-4 but at 5 for something common that's pushing it

Hate the shift, or shaft rather, of having to beat games to get "unlockables". I bought your shitty new game to get the superior old game. Just lemme' have it.
