You move the character with the left thumbstick, aim with the stylus, and shoot with the Left trigger.

The control problem is that you can't grip the console tight enough with just your left hand while pressing the stylus (adding force against what little your left hand can hold up). To combat this, Nintendo released a stand that you rest the 3DS on while playing. This of course has its downside of removing all portability from your handheld.

Does the stand support the 3DS XL?

Kid Icarus: Uprising was such a disappointment. Not because it's a bad game, mind you - it's a great game, one of the best on the platform, and one of the best revivals in gaming. It's disappointing because it feels like it could have been the next big thing for Nintendo. The multiplayer mode gives the title surprisingly long legs for a first-party Nintendo game that isn't part of a mutliplayer-focused franchise, the collectable weapons in particular being an ingenious touch. They hosted an official tournament or two, but it feels like they should have pushed this game a lot more. It's easily the most creative thing the company has developed in years, and that is REALLY saying something. The campaign was clever, the combat was fast and flexible, and it was filled with memorable characters. If we got another Kid Icarus game for the Wii U, Nintendo might have another top-tier franchise on their hands.

^^I can't agree any more with the above statement. As much as the controls would pain the hand on the 3DS, if you dismiss it as a good reason to take a break, the game was just stunning otherwise and really needs to stay alive and NOT be an one off of sheer genius that gets locked away. All they did roll into the package including that half way point mind screw was just simply excellent. They need another on WiiU to help keep things better for it, and as if it wasn't beaten to death enough resurrection of star fox properly and fzero would mean a lot too since they skipped the Wii and more or less the DS (that starfox DS title was at best a failed abortion.) I could only hope those who made Kid Icarus could do such justice to another long dead franchise of theirs, even something obscure like Mach Rider of all things as that could be amazing if handled well.
