I think the single best piece of advice is to play games without the intent on finishing them. There's no reason you have to, or even that you should be physically able to, beat every game. Some games can be enjoyed without ever seeing the ending and some games simply aren't going to let you.

There's no reason to consider a game part of your backlog if you've already gotten as much enjoyment out of it as you're realistically going to.

Why do so many of your completed games feature male protagonists as compared to female? Seems like another example of the sexist gaming patriachy to me.

I didn't include links here as they'd all be to the forum...and I figured we have no need for a potentially big influx into the one thread we have on this topic. Still, any interested reader can probably figure out the community I allude to with some amateur level Google-Fu and find the thread, which would of course be great!

Someone should do an analysis of how many new members Dave's article brings to the forum as compared to rbelmont000's offer of free Steam keys.
